Community Garden work morning this am 6-21-14

Yep, missed getting this notice out and I didn't have the heart to put down 9 am (!) which is less than 45 mins from now.   Today is another busy day with wine tasting at the Town Square.

Richard and I will be at the garden about 9:15 this morning.

On the List for this Week:

  1. We'll 'experiment' a bit with covering up the tin sheets under the first raised bed as we wanted to make it safe for people to walk around them.  Plan is cardboard or plywood covered with gravel.
  2. The second raised bed will be moved into place and have the irrigation set so we can get transplants or starts moved in.
  3. We'll empty one of the Pole Bean barrels and replace the dirt to see if that is what's keeping the beans from growing.
  4. Herb/Horseradish area needs weeds pulled (far northwest corner)
  5. Outside mounds are about ready to plant.  We'll finish pulling weeds and make sure the irrigation is working.  Volunteers are needed to start squash (crookneck, zucchini, other) to plant there.
  6. 24 sweet pepper plants were transplanted into the first raised bed and seem to be settling in.
  7. Regular examination of the seed onions - once they are closed up we can harvest the 'pods' at top.
  8. Finish harvesting the onion rows (not the seed ones, just yet), pull weeds in preparation of getting the plastic down to burn out the weeds on the north half of the garden.
We do have space on the south half and outside to place more plants.  If you have some starts, let us know so we can make room.

Thanks -

Richard and George
