is pleased to announce the final show of our 2013 Twisted Folk Concert Series –
Grammy-award winning Americana music legends Mollie O’Brien and Rich Moore!
“This is the last show so we’re a
little sad,” said winery co-owner Jeff Stai. “Every show has been a lot of fun,
with record audiences and world class musicians. We really appreciate the
support we have received this summer! And, we’re especially happy to be able to
end the season with Mollie O’Brien and
Rich Moore – performers who are able to move between
so many different genres, just like our concert season did this year.”
A hot dinner will be available for
purchase, along with yummy Twisted Oak wine, brownies by Wren Catering, popcorn,
and soft drinks. Concertgoers are welcome to bring their own picnics but we ask
that no outside alcoholic beverages be brought in.
Seating at Twisted Folk concerts is
outdoor festival style, first-come, first-served – bring a low beach-type chair
or a blanket. We’re on top of a hill and there is always an evening breeze – it
can get a little chilly after dark so please plan ahead.
Twisted Oak Winery is located in the
foothills of Calaveras County, and specializes in wines made from Mediterranean
varieties like Tempranillo, Viognier, and Petite Sirah. Our concert venue,
located at the winery in Vallecito, sits on a hilltop that commands a sweeping
view of the Sierra Nevada and the surrounding foothills, presided over by a
350-year old California Blue Oak that graces the label of every wine we bottle.

Sometimes
the story is just about the ordinary. No big bang, no big gig, no big promoter
or writer hearing the band and telling the rest of the world. Sometimes the
story is just about doing what you do and keeping at it. In the case of Mollie O'Brien and Rich Moore it means
30 years of marriage, kids, day jobs, and making music together and apart.
Grammy Award winner Mollie O'Brien became known as a singer's singer when, in
1988, she and her brother Tim released the first of 3 critically acclaimed
albums for Sugar Hill (Take Me Back, Remember Me and Away Out
On The Mountain). Eventually, Mollie recorded 5 equally well received solo
albums (Tell It True, Big Red Sun and Things I Gave Away for
Sugar Hill, and I Never Move Too Soon and Everynight In The Week for
Resounding Records). She's long been known as a singer who doesn't recognize a
lot of musical boundaries and audiences love her fluid ability to make herself
at home in any genre while never sacrificing the essence of any song she
tackles. Amazingly, given how many artists fall to the temptation, O'Brien has
mostly managed to resist the siren call of singer-songwriterdom and has
primarily focused her efforts on the fading art of interpretation. The end result is a singer at the very top of her
game who is not afraid to take risks both vocally and in the material she
chooses.
Husband Rich Moore has busied himself in the
Colorado music scene for many years. In an act of utter selflessness, he stayed
home with the kids when Mollie and her brother Tim started performing again as
a duo in the late 1980s. While she toured all over the world Moore held a day
job for years and managed to continue to perform locally with people like Pete
Wernick's Flexigrass, Celeste Krenz, and Tom Paxton. Not only is Moore is known
to produce some of the funniest running onstage commentary, he's also a power
house guitar player who can keep up with O'Brien's twists and turns from blues
to traditional folk to jazz to rock and roll. He creates a band with just his
guitar. Theirs is an equal partnership.
Their
first duet CD, a live recording titled 900 Baseline (Remington Road
Records) was released in 2006. Their first studio project, Saints &
Sinners (Remington Road Records), was released to much acclaim in 2010. In
January 2014 they'll release their follow up, Love Runner (Remington
Road Records).
Both
studio projects were produced by Lyons, CO ace arranger - and acoustic bassist,
Eric Thorin, who joins them on
stage. All 3 CDs showcase their talent for unlocking the secrets to a diverse
array of songs in authoritative yet very fun and unusual arrangements.
