Happy 4th of July!!!

July 4th history - History.com

ariously known as the Fourth of July and Independence Day, July 4th has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-83). In June 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies then fighting in the revolutionary struggle weighed a resolution that would declare their independence from Great Britain. On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later its delegates adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 until the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with typical festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.

Winning Ways Advice Column by Marge Powers - 'Job INterviewing Secrets You Must Know NOW'

Job Interviewing Secrets You Must Know NOW!

Hi Marge,

Whenever I go on an interview, I feel like my tongue is tied in knots, and I don’t feel confident at all.  I know I blow my anxiety way out of proportion, but I sure would like to turn that all around.  Any tips?    Scott Schmitt

Hi Scott,

Getting prepared to ‘do the right things’ on an interview, takes practice, many mistakes, and tons of stress.  To get you started on the right foot here are some secret but obvious tips.  These tips below will get their attention, and have you feel like you may have some semblance of control to make a good impression.  Good luck!
 Marge ‘Magic’ Powers

Job Interview Secret Tips:

Everybody knows the warning about the ‘limp handshake.’ You were probably advised against that blunder when you were looking for your first job.  God forbid a potential employer should reach out and wind up holding something that feels like damp earthworms.  Here are a couple of job interviewing secrets that can help you avoid any awkward encounters when you’re at the office:

In an interview, shaking hands firmly is just one of the things you must do with your body.  Body language makes up 93 per cent of human communication, so what you do with your body is of massive importance.  And this starts even BEFORE you walk into the interview.

The Findings:

Harvard Business School social psychologist Amy Cuddy is an expert on nonverbal communications.  She says one of the most valuable things you can do in your job search is to understand how important your body language is and how it impacts those around you, as well as yourself.

Have you ever watched a cat react to another animal by arching her back and raising her fur?  That’s because she wants to seem bigger.  Animals instinctively know that by taking up more space, they seem bolder.  Even humans are hard-wired this way.

Cuddy talks about ‘power poses,” such as putting one’s feet on the desk and leaning back, arms behind the head.  Or standing with hands on hips, feet apart.  But if you think I’m going to tell you to position yourself this way during an interview, STOP!  You want to look like a confident person, not like a pompous jerk.

Land Wanted - buyers seeking acreage in Angels Camp or Copperopolis area

                         LAND WANTED

If you are thinking of selling your parcel, please consider this. While many parcels remain unsold for extended periods of time, we have several buyers seeking acreage for vacation or retirement in the Angels Camp and Copperopolis Area.
They have $20,000 to $40,000 cash for a down payment. However, there is no institutional financing for bare land.  Seller financing is needed.
We recommend offering fifteen year amortized financing at 5% APR with 20% cash down payment. On a $100,000 sale, the monthly payment would be $632.63.  The seller also may receive tax benefits and cash proceeds at close of escrow.

Pump Boys and Dinettes - fun for the whole family - by, Kristina Zimmerman

The Sierra Repertory Theater's performance of the musical Pump Boys and Dinettes, playing through July 27, 2014,  is fun for the whole family.

The audience shared nothing but laughs and smiles as the goofy cast members acted and sang. Each character was son completely different yet was able to be perfectly in sync with one another, whether it was hitting the perfect notes, or acting off of each other.

With a ‘50s themed stage, catchy songs, dancing, the story of a typical day at the diner and auto shop was nothing but fun and entertaining.

Community Garden needs your help pulling weeds

We didn't get too far along on pulling Morning Glory from the tomato plants, so we are asking for folks to come out tomorrow (Wed) evening at 7 pm.   Yes, it will be a very hot day - but we should get a 1-2 day break in here pretty quick.

We'll not keep you very long - and the work is focused on removing the Morning Glory which is now threatening the tomato plants which will...if given the chance...soon be setting fruit.

Hope to see you tomorrow night.

Cheers!

New Melones Fishing report from Glory Hole Sports

7-1-14 Fishing Report

Water Conditions:  New Melones Lake is currently holding
717,442 acre-feet of water.  The lake level dropped four feet this week and is currently at 899 ft. above sea level and 186 ft. from full.  The water is stained in most areas of the lake, and fairly clear in others.  There are mud lines forming near the shore throughout the day, especially on windy days. The average water temperature is 74-80 degrees and rising daily.  Tuttletown launch is closed. Glory Hole Point boat launch is open, and there are no plans to close it. There will be some transition periods between launches where launching will be limited to one or two lanes.

Trout: Fair.  Night fishing has been good.  Most anglers using submersible lights at night are catching some really healthy 2 to 3-pound trout.  Try using nightcrawlers and Power Bait to target fish that feed at night.  It is also a good idea to use baits that resemble the shad that are being drawn to the light.  Live minnows work well and soft plastic worms and swim baits will work too.  It is very important to apply scent to your baits when night fishing.  This will help fish locate your bait.  Trolling anglers have been bringing in a handful of nice trout along with their kokanee. The main river channel will have the coolest water is a good place to locate trout and kokanee. Try trolling in 30-50' of water at 2.5-3.0 mph.  The shad are schooling up, and are a primary food source for trout.  Try using baits that best resemble the natural forage.  Bank fishing for trout has been very slow.  Trout season is open for rivers, and streams, it might be best to try your luck in these areas. If you do choose to target trout from the bank try using chartreuse or rainbow garlic Power Bait.  Fly fishing anglers try fishing nymphs under an indicator during the day and switching to mayfly patterns during the evening.  Also, try using buggers and streamers in the high country lakes.

The Glory Hole Sports Big Fish of the Week Contest goes to Mike Jones and 8-year old Abigale Jones of Stockton. They caught a nice 2-pound rainbow trout near the spillway.

Stage III Water conseravation imperative to County

According to Joel Metzger of CCWD, the CCWD Stage III mandatory water conservation "is in response to a state curtailment order" which stated, in part, "that CCWD had to stop diverting water except for the health and human safety of its customers." CCWD chose to pass Stage I and II, which are both voluntary, in order to meet the requirements handed down from the State.

If Stage IV is implemented it will include mandatory actions of a 50% reduction of water use with outdoor watering by hose or irrigation system prohibited,  as well as more restrictions.

According to Susan Larson of Tri Dam "The water within Tulloch Reservoir is the primary drinking water source for many of the residents in Copperopolis, and is supplied to them by the Calaveras County Water District." CCWD is at Stage III mandatory water conservation. "Other water is used by the irrigation districts downstream to fulfill irrigation commitments, and it is my understanding that all users have faced reductions."

CCWD adopts mandatory Stage 3 water conservation

During a regular board meeting held Wednesday June 11, the Calaveras County Water District Board of Directors established Stage 3 mandatory water  conservation measures, effective immediately, which will affect about 12,600
customers.
These conservation measures were adopted in response to Gov. Jerry Brown’s declaration of drought state of emergency along with a curtailment notice from the State Water Resource Control Board sent out in early June.
