November 12, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Sonora
Regional Medical Center welcomes fellowship-trained neurologist and sleep
medicine specialist Anahid Hekmat, MD. Dr. Hekmat earned her medical degree at
Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. She completed a medical
internship at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, neurology residency
and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Rush University Medical Center, and
sleep medicine fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center.
“I have always been fascinated with how the
brain works, how we are who we are, and how the brain works in conjunction will
all other organs,” explains Dr. Hekmat. Pursuing her interests, she now has two
board certifications in neurology and psychiatry and clinical neurophysiology
and will sit for the exam for a third certification in sleep medicine in 2015.
Dr. Hekmat’s many years of training and
experience have included all aspects of neurology, including epilepsy,
electroencephalogram, sleep medicine and sleep studies. “I love what I do,
interacting with patients and helping create changes to make each patient’s life
better,” says Dr. Hekmat. “In sleep medicine, I can see immediate positive
changes in my patients, sometimes even after one night of treatment.”
In her new practice, Dr. Hekmat will focus on
sleep medicine, using sleep studies to diagnose patients suffering from sleep
apnea and other sleep disturbances and developing treatment plans to improve
their sleep.
Dr. Hekmat has moved to Sonora with her
husband, Roozbeh Mohajer, MD, a hematologist-oncologist who has joined Sonora
Regional Cancer Center. Together they enjoy music and maintaining active
lifestyles with swimming, hiking and skiing among their top interests. They are
both accomplished writers having written several publications on medical
topics.
