CalFire TCU Lightening Fire update
SAN ANDREAS
– Thursday, September 06, 2012 the weather system that moved through Calaveras
and Tuolumne Counties yesterday brought numerous lightning strikes which
sparked 24 fires within the two counties in the last 24 hours. The largest fire remains the SALT fire in Calaveras County which is 100% contained and
burned 84 acres. Fire personnel will
continue to patrol the two counties for “sleepers”, these are fires that may
not be seen until the heat returns and humidity levels become lower. Due to
the strategically placed resources throughout the two counties yesterday most
of the lightning fires were found, contained and controlled very quickly with
minimal acreage loss. There were no
injuries or structure loss associated with any of the fires.

Lungren Statement On National Debt Reaching $16 Trillion
Congressman
Dan Lungren (R-Gold River) issued the following statement in
response to the U.S. national debt surpassing $16 trillion for the first
time in American history.
“The debt of the United States is now $16 trillion. We have reached a milestone that everyone should take very seriously because of its lasting effect on the future of our country. There is really no way to sugar coat the problem we face. This level of debt is a burden to our economy, is a threat to our national security, and will seriously alter the livelihood of future generations of Americans. We are currently borrowing nearly 40 cents on the dollar and sending the bill to our children and grandchildren- everyone’s share of the national debt is $50,908. We have borrowed and spent money we do not have and the level of debt will continue to rise unless we chart a new fiscal course. Enacting commonsense reforms that address the drivers of this colossal debt needs to be our main priority if we are to strengthen our economy today and save the American dream for the next generation.”

Assemblymember Olsen's Response to AB 340 - public pension reform
Assemblymember
Kristin Olsen, R-Modesto, issued the following statement 8-31-12 in
response AB 340 (Furutani, D-Lakewood), which addresses public pension
reform:
“While
the proposal that appeared before the legislature today represents a
first step toward reform, it falls far short of putting California’s
public pension system on a sustainable path. This plan will end some of
the system’s most publicized abuses, but the savings realized will only
provide pennies on the dollar in terms of what is truly needed for
reform. The Governor released his blueprint for pension reform over 10
months ago, yet the proposal voted on today was finalized only 76 hours
ago without enough time for thoughtful analysis.

Happy Labor Day
Observed on the first Monday in September, Labor Day pays tribute to the
contributions and achievements of American workers. It was created by
the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday
in 1894. Labor Day also symbolizes the end of summer for many
Americans, and is celebrated with parties, parades and athletic events.
Labor Day, an annual celebration of workers and their achievements, originated during one of American labor history’s most dismal chapters. In the late 1800s, at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks in order to eke out a basic living. Despite restrictions in some states, children as young as 5 or 6 toiled in mills, factories and mines across the country, earning a fraction of their adult counterparts’ wages. People of all ages, particularly the very poor and recent immigrants, often faced extremely unsafe working conditions, with insufficient access to fresh air, sanitary facilities and breaks.
New Melones Fishing Report from Glory Hole Sports
Fishing report 9-4-12
FREE FISHING DAY SEPTEMBER 08, 2012!
Water
Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,552,784 acre-feet
of water. The lake level dropped just over a foot this week and is
currently at 1009 ft. above sea level and 79 ft. from full. Water
temperature is in the low 80's. Lake is stained, with mud lines forming
around the shore on windy days, and days with a lot of boat traffic.
Good news, the lower ramp on Glory Hole Point is open, which makes for
an easy walk.
Trout:
Great! We are seeing a surprising number of trout caught, for this
time of year. Trolling anglers are bringing in some great trout.
Glory
Hole Sports Big Fish of the Week Contest goes to Alan Bayer. He caught a
beautiful 3-pound 14-ounce rainbow while trolling a blue/gold Excel
spoon in 70' of water, while fishing with Danny Layne of Fish'n Dan's
Guide Service.
