On November 26th, 2011, at approximately 8:30 PM, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle burglary, where the victim reported that his vehicle was broken into while it was parked in the downtown area. The victim, visiting from Southern California, parked and locked his vehicle and then went out to dinner with a friend. Upon returning to his vehicle he noticed that the vehicle door was ajar and property was missing. Items taken included an iPad 2, a back pack, clothing, and other items.

Organized and sponsored by the Lake Tulloch Tootsies- a Red Hat group, the Angel Tree is set up for children in our community in need. Through the food pantry and other resources the children of our community receive their food, medical and dental care, but when Christmas time comes each year the Red Hatters wanted to make sure it was merry and that they know they are loved.Each angel on the tree signifies a child, their age and sex (names wihtheld). Choose an angel to shop for. Once you have completed your shopping, bring your wrapped gifts to Dell Jackson Insurance along with the paper angel signifying your 'adopted' child.

Matthew Gregory McCullough, born August 2, 1996, earned his wings November 27, 2011.
Matthew left us peacefully on Nov. 27, at the age of forever 15. He was surrounded by his loving family, and best friend Adrian Tennant. He fought a brave and brutal fight against medulloblastoma, a very aggressive brain cancer. Matthew taught so many people in our community and around the world about patience, strength, and acceptance.
Through all he had to endure and suffer, he was always smiling, never complained, and never asked “Why me?”. He always wanted us to know he was ok, and always answered to everything “I’m good.”

Recall signatures fall short
According to Becky Andahl from the Calaveras County Elections office the amount of signatures collected on the petitions for the recall of Supervisor Darren Spellman equalled 1336. The signatures will not be verified or checked for duplicates due to the fact that the number required for a recall was not met.
There is no comment at this time from Michael McDaniel regarding the outcome of the recall effort.

New Melones Fishing report - from Glory Hole Sports
Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,961,624 acre-feet of water. The lake level has been steady for the last three weeks, and is currently at 1048 ft. above sea level and 40 ft. from full. Water temperature is really dropping now, and is currently 56 degrees. The lake seems to have turned over, by the great trout fishing we have seen this week.
Trout: Great action! The Department of Fish and Game is planting Melones every week now, plus we are seeing some beautiful 2-to-3-pound holdovers. Trout are feeding heavily on schools of small shad. Bite is best in the morning.
Tasmanian Devils have been hot for both trollers and bank anglers. We are having a hard time keeping them in stock! We are out right now, but will have more on Wednesday or Thursday, in time for the weekend.

County Elections Office still awaiting signatures
As of 1605 hours the Calaveras County Elections Office was still awaiting the recall signatures for the recall of Supervisor Darren Spellman.
According to sources the amount of signatures collected to date varies between 1200 and 1600, with a total of 1702 valid signatures needed.
The elections office stated that whether the amount of required signatures was reached or not, the paperwork with all the signatures collected must be submitted.
The Elections Office will have a count of signatures by noon 11-29-11.

28 Nov. 2011, at approx. 9:05 am, the Sonora Police Department was advised of a possible bomb that was located just outside the north door (Yaney Ave. entrance) of the Tuolumne County Courthouse.
The item was in a canvas bag. It consisted of three red cylinder type items that were taped together. There was a wire running from the cylinders to a black box, which was also attached to the cylinders.
The Courthouse was evacuated for approx. 2 hours and traffic was diverted around the courthouse. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department’s Bomb Squad was contacted. They responded and examined the device and determined that it was inert, but looked very realistic. The Bomb Squad collected the item for further forensic evidence processing.
The investigation into this matter is continuing. It has been determined the item was left at the Courthouse sometime between 7am and 9 am. Courthouse surveillance tapes are going to be reviewed as part of the investigation. Anyone with information regarding who may have left the item at the Courthouse is asked to call the Sonora Police Department at 209-532-8141.

Hot cocoa, carols, Santa & Mrs. Claus, Forsty, live music, friends and the feeling of Christmas in the air all made for a wonderful evening at the annual Town Square Christmas Tree Lighting event.
Live music by local youth was provided throughout the evening. Mentored by John Campanella and Josh Pfieiffer the youth of Copperopolis had been rehearsing for this event and looked forward to their performance with great anticipation. The results were astounding. Amanda French sang a lovely Silent Night, Hannah Pfeiffer was brilliant, her voice clear and beautiful as she sang Last Christmas and Grown Up Christmas List , Michael Impink wowed again, and Jordan Strauch got creative with the all time Christmas favorite Jingle Bells and boldly ventured into some Lennon.

The deadline for the collections of signatures for the recall of District 5 Supervisor Darren Spellman is today, 11-28-11 at 5:00 pm.
According to statments made in the press over the past few weeks by Michael McDaniel, former District 5 Supervisor hopeful and one of the leaders in the forefront of the recall, the numbers needed have not been met. Final Results of the season. Bret Harte girls competed as well as expected. Kaylee was a bit off. Got boxed in early and had to fight her way out of the pack. By then the girls she was focused on were a ways ahead. Hannah C and KD A both ran well. Hayley R picked it up to make top 5. Madi W beat out the Exeter 6th place girl to give us the tie-breaker victory over them. Jessie was still under the weather.

April 9, 1967, in a letter from Jim Piper to his young bride Michelle, he wrote, "I thank God each night for my wife and my life and also enjoy each breath that I take and praise every morning I wake up too. It means another day gone, another day I'm alive and another day closer to being home with my wife forever."
PFC James Dennis Piper was in killed in action two days later on April 11, 1967 in the jungles of Vietnam.

Donna's 'Day after Thanksgiving' Shepherds Pie
A creative way of using all your Thanksgiving leftovers all in one delicious meal!
Thanksgiving meal shepherds pie uses the last spoonfuls of everything from your Thanksgiving feast.
Spread ingredients in an unbaked pie shell, drizzle gravy over the top and sprinkle over the top some grated cheese of your choice.
Bake at 350 until pie crust is browned and cheese is melted. Serve with salad.

Lungren Disappointed in Failure of Deficit Reduction Committee
Congressman Dan Lungren (R-Gold River, CA) reacted to news that the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (the “Super Committee”) failed to reach an agreement to reduce the deficit by at least $1.2 trillion over 10 years:
“With the failure of the Super Committee, Congress once again has neglected to face head on a long-foreseen and fast-approaching crisis. The resulting sequestration – or across-the-board cuts – resulting in blind, indiscriminate spending reductions is a shoddy way to ensure the long-term vitality of our nation. Particularly troublesome are the cuts to our defense which, as Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta stated, would be ‘devastating,’ ‘seriously damage readiness,’ and require ‘a new security strategy that accepted substantial risk of not meeting our defense needs.’

Welcome Chief Jeff Millar
On Thursday 11-17-11 Battalion Chief Jeff Millar signed off over the airways, after 30 years with CAL FIRE, thanking all for a good run. The next evening 11-18-11 Jeff Millar took the Oath of Office as the new Chief of Copperopolis Fire Protection District.
The ceremony was well attended leaving standing room only. The troops, both volunteer and paid alike, showed out in full force in support for their new leader.

Governor announces appointments
Henry Abarbanel, 68, of Del Mar, has been appointed to the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board. He has been a professor of physics at the University of California, San Diego and a research physicist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography since 1983. Abarbanel served on the Del Mar City Council from 1992 to 1996 and 2000 to 2008. He was chair of the San Diego Metro Wastewater Commission from 2005 to 2008. Abarbanel received his doctorate in physics at Princeton University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Abarbanel is a Democrat.

The first Thanksgiving in 1621 was a celebration of the harvest that brought together the Pilgrims of Plymouth Plantation and the Native Americans who helped them adapt to their new environment. Over the years Thanksgiving became an American tradition and one of the first holidays we celebrated as a free and independent nation. In 1789, George Washington proclaimed the first Thanksgiving observance in the newly formed United States of America, writing that “it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor.”

Subject: Burglary Arrest

23 November 2011, at approx. 3:52 am, Officers noticed a male subject hiding behind a soda machine in front of O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on S. Washington Street. Officers contacted the subject who was acting extremely suspicious. When the Officers asked to search the subject, he took off running.
As the subject ran from the Officers, he tossed an 18 inch screwdriver and a hypodermic needle. When Officers caught up with the subject he was attempting to toss a large sum of one dollar bills. At this point the subject was taken into custody without further incident. The subject was identified as Eric Allen Wright, 30 of Stockton.
An examination of the soda machine where Wright was standing revealed it had been broken into and all the money removed. Two other soda machines in the area had also been broken into. Wright had in his possession $153 one dollar bills, along with a used methamphetamine pipe, which he was wearing around his neck.
Wright was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for;
Felony burglary

Misdemeanor possession of burglary tools
Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
Misdemeanor loitering on private property
Misdemeanor possession of a hypodermic needle

Injured Fire Captain Listed in Stable Condition
Fire Captain Sue Arrouzet, who was injured just after 10:30PM, November 12, 2011, in a partial structural collapse, is listed in stable condition with a serious back injury. Captain Arrouzet has been moved to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where she will start her rehabilitation process. Sue and her family are sincerely thankful for the generous well wishes and offers of monetary donations. Copper Youth, Jake Ham, Volunteers in Africa
24 year old Jake Ham recently returned from Kenya, Africa after a 6 week visit volunteering his medical expertise.
While Jake scoffs at the term medical expertise, he did indeed head to the small town of Kangundu (East of Nairobi) with his newly acquired kinesiology degree in hand. Not sure if he wanted to attend grad school, yet wanting to put his skills to use, Jake found an short term alternative. Working through a Canadian volunteer group Jake had to come up with his own money for passage and lodging, while the Canadian group found him a host family and a hospital with which to volunteer.
To many of the tribe Jake was the first white man they had seen, to others, those educated and traveled, Jake was nothing new but still referred to as a mzungu – white. Jake was welcomed almost immediately and quickly picked up some Swahili words to communicate loosely. All around him people would chant in Swahili. He began to be comforted by the sound.

Baca served as vice president of student services for Rio Hondo College from 1991 to 1997 and director of the extended opportunity program and services, financial aid and veteran’s services from 1982 to 1991. Earlier last month local Richard Hibbard graduated basic training in the United States Navy. He currently is awaiting assignment to training school for computerized weapons systems onboard Navy vessels.

Richard will finish advanced electrical training on January17, 2012. From there he will attend electrical training A school graduating as a Petty Officer. He then is scheduled to attend electrical training C school where upon graduation he will receive rank of 2nd class Petty Officer.
According to his parents, Marsha and Al Seider, Richard is enjoying the Navy. They are excited for his upcoming leave 12-16-11 through 1-2-12, having him home for the Christmas season "is a blessing. It will be a special Christmas for our family. Richard is a good roll model for our other son Zack."
Manson Family Murderer Charles Denton Watson denied parole for the 16th time
IONE – The Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) denied parole today to inmate Charles Denton Watson at a parole suitability hearing at Mule Creek State Prison. Inmate Watson, 65, has been serving a life sentence for his involvement in the 1969 Manson Family murders.
It was Watson’s 16th appearance before a BPH panel. Inmate Watson will be considered for another parole review in five years.

Friday, 25 Nov. 2011, will mark the City of Sonora’s 28th annual Christmas Parade. This event always falls on the Friday following Thanksgiving Day and is attended by thousands of on lookers. The Sonora Police Department is tasked with traffic control and security for the parade.

Sheriff Press Release re:arrest for possession of marijuana for sale
On 11/20/11 Calaveras Sheriffs Department Deputies conducted a vehicle stop on a van on Highway 26 at Saint Andrews Road in Valley Springs. Deputies made contact with the driver of the vehicle, Jeannie Eastridge (41), and the passenger of the vehicle, Paul Eastridge (42), both of Rail Road Flat. Also in the vehicle was another adult, Michael Langston (18), of Railroad Flat, and 5 children (ages 3, 7, 13, 15, and 16).
While speaking with the vehicle occupants sheriff’s deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. They also noticed that Mr. Eastridge was bleeding heavily from an injury to his head. Mr. Eastridge stated that he had just been the victim of a robbery in the Stockton area where he was struck over the head with a firearm; however, nothing was stolen from him during the robbery.

Katie Dawson, 65, of Oakland, has been appointed to the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Dawson has been the principal of Dawson Dental Hygiene Practice since 2009. She was a dental hygienist for Dr. Damani Mitchell from 2001 to 2009, Dr. James Sweeney from 1995 to 2002, and Dr. Michael Hine from 1991 to 2002. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Dawson is a Democrat.

Dondro has served as acting deputy director of external affairs at the California Technology Agency since 2010. Snaps Wine Tasting - an Italian flair
Friday night, 11-18-11, Snaps Coffee House and Wine bar hosted La Folia Winery and their delicious, authentic Italian wines...from the foothills.
As with all wine tastings at Snaps, it was well atended.
The music, provided by guitarist extraordinaire Danny Burton, was superb. The appetizers, created by none other than Snaps owner Sue Bresee, were perfect pairings for the variety of wines poured. And the laughter and comaraderie was plentiful.

Copper Fire responds to large debris fire
The call initially came out this morning at approximately 10:00 am as a possible structure fire on O'Byrnes Ferry Road. Response was immediate.
No structure was involved.
It was a large debris burn.
The fire was attended and they informed the CFPD that they will be burning throughout the week.
New Melones Fishing report from Glory Hole Sports
Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,953,758 acre-feet of water. The lake level has been steady for the last two weeks, and is currently at 1048 ft. above sea level and 41 ft. from full. Water temperature is really dropping now, and is currently 58-61 degrees. The lake will "turn over" when surface water cools to the same temp as the deeper water- around 53-54 degrees. This usually happens around Thanksgiving, and then the trout bite really turns on for bank-anglers and trollers alike.
Trout: We had another good week of fishing! The Department of Fish and Game is planting Melones every week now, plus we are seeing some beautiful 2-to-3-pound holdovers. Bank fishing is really picking up. Bite is best in the morning. Trollers have been doing well fishing over the main river channel from upriver under the bridges into the main lake (the spillway/dam area) from 20-50 feet deep with any small shad-imitation lure such as Needlefish, Excel, and Rapala Countdowns. Trout are feeding heavily on schools of small shad. The tandem spoon rig continues to produce some beautiful holdovers. Also the Tasmanian Devil works as a good bait to troll or cast.
Team Mc Fishing Guide Service went out on Tuesday and caught some nice fish. They trolled silver Shasta Tackle hum dingers behind U.V. sling blades. Others who caught fish while trolling include, Jim Monroe, Sharron Monroe, and Allan Monroe. Bank anglers have been bringing in some big holdover trout while fishing in the shallow waters in the backs of Angels and Glory Hole Cove, while throwing spoons such as Kastmasters and Krocodiles in chrome/blue and rainbow patterns. Power Bait and Power Eggs fished on a sliding sinker rig and a 24" leader seems to be the most popular bait setup.
