Support for Local Marine in Afghanistan - Glory Hole Sports

rowe tea
From Patrick Rowe's mother (comments in blue are from Melanie):

Here's a short summary of what Patrick and his misfits have been up to.  They are on base at a forward operating base in the Helmand Province, the place we keep hearing about in Southern Afghanistan.  More on that later.  Here are some excerpts from his emails:

Christmas Eve:  "we are somewhat celebrating Christmas by watching "Bad Santa" which is hilarious.  The assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps is coming to say Hello to the Marines here on FOB XXXX, always interesting what the higher-ups have to say about what's going on in the Marine Corps these days.

Glory Holes ongoing effort to "Support the Troops"

Patrick and his fellow Marines have begun operations in Afghanistan.  There are about 20 Marines in his platoon, 300 in Lima Company, and about 1200 Marines in his Battalion.  We have begun sending boxes of goodies, thanks to all of you who have donated money and supplies. It is always so wonderful to see how many people want to do something for the brave men who are protecting our lives and our freedom.

Patrick has expressed his wish for a microwave for his platoon, so we will be sending one soon.

Here is a list of high-demand items for now:
Cheap shaving cream (used to mark trails- they are using 18 cans per day)
Baby Wipes
Pre-sweetend beverage mixes (to add to 16-oz bottled water)
Tobacco products
Undershirts (olive green, short sleeve)
Toothbrushes
Gum, Lifesavers, mints
AA, AAA, C and D batteries
Travel-sized liquid body wash

goodie boxes
Some boxes from the last shipment
