President Barack Obama authorized the US military to send 1,500 more
troops to Iraq on Friday. That would nearly double the American military
presence in the country. He also requested $5.6 billion for the fight
against the Islamic State

'Support our Troops' care packages need your help
Recent requests for basic supplies such as:
Shaving cream, razors, toothpaste, K-cups for Kuerigs, mini-moo creamers and basics.
According to an airman serving overseas the px is closing down and "isn't stocking much so all that stuff is hard to come by and very much appreciated."
In addition female basic supplies are necessary too.
Keep in mind we cannot ship aerosols, so shaving creams must be in tubes or non-aerosol.
Hard candy, beef jerky, chap stick, moleskin, foot powder and crossword type books are always welcome.
There will be a donation container at Umpqua Bank from 5-5-14 thru 5-9-14. Any items you would like to donate will be greatly appreciated.

Hot Rods and Harleys Poker Run hosted by the Sports Pub supports our troops
At the first annual Hot Rods and Harleys Poker Run hosted by the Micki and Larrys Sports Pub people on Harley's, in Hot Rods, and in other four wheeled forms of transportation enjoyed a hot day of riding to support our troops.
The funds raised will be used to purchase supplies and treats for our servicemen and women serving overseas. The event raised enough to send summer AND winter care packages.
This event follows Micki and Larry's hearts to support our troops and our veterans.
Micki Phillips lost her first husband in Vietnam at the young age of 20 and her husband of 25 years Larry Phillips served in Vietnam. "We need to let them know we care...that we haven't forgotten them." Said Micki.
If you have a son or daughter, niece/nephew, friend, etc, serving overseas and would like the Sports Pub to send a care package to their unit please contact them through the Copper Gazette at coppergazette@gmail.com.

Operation Cookie Drop
Here is a wonderful way for you to send our troops a taste of home. When you buy your Girl Scout cookies, you can also have some sent to our Troops. Just ask about it where you buy your cookies and they will send them for you. What a wonderful way to help the Girl Scouts and also our Troops.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary supporting our troops
Ashley Gilbert, grand daughter of Post 12118 Commander Al Gilbert and member of the Copperopolis VFW Post 12118 Ladies Auxiliary, has begun a new campaign to support our troops.
Ashley, the youngest auxiliary member at 19, has many friends currently serving in the military and many deployed over seas. Feeling the pull to help them in any way, she talked with some and the consensus was that they ALL love packages from home. Ashley took this knowledge and ran with it. She has coordinated with the ladies auxiliary to start collections of donations for the troops right here in Copperopolis.
