VFW Ladies Auxiliary supporting our troops

Ashley Gilbert, grand daughter of Post 12118 Commander Al Gilbert and member of the Copperopolis VFW Post 12118 Ladies Auxiliary, has begun a new campaign to support our troops.

Ashley, the youngest auxiliary member at 19, has many friends currently serving in the military and many deployed over seas. Feeling the pull to help them in any way, she talked with some and the consensus was that they ALL love packages from home. Ashley took this knowledge and ran with it. She has coordinated with the ladies auxiliary to start collections of donations for the troops right here in Copperopolis.

At a recent meeting the ladies of the auxiliary got together and decorated coffee tins for monetary donations to offset shipping costs and decorated large buckets for collection of donated goods. Slowly but surely you will see these cans and bins turn up in businesses locally. If you would like to help the troops over seas, by sending a little love from home, the following is a list of items they are needing and wanting:

Neck coolers
Powder energy drink
Saline eye drops
Body wipes
Bug repellent towelettes
Sunblock
Chapstick / Carmex
Sox (white, brown, green, black)
Flea collar (to wear around their ankles to ward off sand fleas)
Foot powder
Jock itch powder
Hand sanitizer
Batteries (AA/AAA)
Snacks (nothing that will melt) Beef jerky is a favorite
Magazines / puzzle books (crossword, word search, etc.)
Instant coffee
Ben gay patches
Eye glass repair kits
Travel first aid kit

As the weather cools – Nov thru Feb the needs also are:
Black fleece gloves (no logos)
Black watch hats (no logos)
Long sleeve black shirts
