Prime Attractions Reflect National Trends and Include ‘Small Town’ Feel, Luxury Amenities

(COPPEROPOLIS, Calif.) – Saddle Creek Resort – the Castle & Cooke golf community in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Calaveras County – reports seeing an increase in Baby Boomer buyers exhibiting habits that mirror national trends.

A survey earlier this year by Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate, LLC revealed several behaviors that have been on the mark when it comes to new home owners at Saddle Creek.

“Boomers aren't necessarily downsizing into properties that have fewer amenities – they plan to live the rest of their lives in style,” says Sherry Chris, President and Chief Executive of Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate. “Seventy percent of them said the house they retire in will be the best home they've ever lived in, [and] 39 percent said it would be [in] a rural community, such as a farm or a small town.”

Saddle Creek Resort has reduced irrigation of its golf course by 40% since June.

Despite the cutback, Saddle Creek’s highly-regarded layout remains in excellent shape. Led by superintendent Pat Smyth, the maintenance team has made several adjustments to its typical turf care practices to ensure course conditions remain first-rate. They include:

·         Concentrating irrigation efforts on tees, fairways and greens

·         Watering the rough once a week, rather than typical rate of three or four times

·         Limiting many 360-degree sprinkler heads to making 180-degree turns

·         Hand watering and syringing fairways

“We need to do what’s right for California,” says Rick Morgan, General Manager. “At the same time, we’re giving our guests a glimpse of how golf courses may routinely look a bit more ‘brown’ in the very near future.”

A 30-year veteran of the California golf industry, Morgan was previously general manager of Woodbridge Golf & Country Club in Woodbridge, Calif. During his decade-long tenure, he oversaw the club’s transformation into a multi-million dollar operation consisting of 27 holes of golf, swimming and tennis facilities, and full dining services.

Most recently, Morgan directed major clubhouse renovations and new swimming facility construction projects that were completed on time and under budget. Prior to managing Woodbridge, he was with The Springs Club in Rancho Mirage, CA.

Copper Valley Realty to Merge with Saddle Creek Sales

 

(COPPEROPOLIS, Calif.) – Copper Valley Realty will be merging with Saddle Creek Sales to consolidate both in one office.

The Saddle Creek Sales office is located on the Saddle Creek Resort premises. Bringing the two together under one roof will enhance the focus on new and resale homes within the resort.

ReHorse Rescue Golf Tournament a swinging good time

Saddle Creek hosted a golf tournament on Friday October 11, 2013 to raise funds for ReHorse Rescue, a horse rescue and rehabilitation facility located in Jamestown.

The weather was a beautiful sunny yet cool day for the 116 registered golfers. The event was played shogun style, where teams tee off simultaneously from different holes.

Last years reigning champs - correctional retirees - began at the 10 hole with hopes of retaining their title.

Our own Gordon Russ of Copperopolis recorded a Hole In One during the event on Friday on Hole #7!

Wildlife abounds in Saddle Creek 9-4-13

A second entry into Saddle Creek?

Last week, first week in August 2013, Mid Valley Engineering was surveying the intersection of Little John Road and Copper Cove drive for what they said was a possible road into Saddle Creek.

Previously a peanut shaped round-about had been submitted to the county for approval when Castle and Cooke was to develop Vineyard Estates; a small development on the 43 acres at the same intersection (previously Walkin' On Ranch). The peanut round-about was not rejected by the county but Castle and Cooke was told to go back to the drawing board to look for another alternative, possibly a regular round-about with legs of the roads lining up properly.

According to the county they are still awaiting for the re-submittal of a preliminary plan for the 2nd access road to Saddle Creek.

Saddle Creek Residents produce a healthy food drive

The residents of Saddle Creek held a holiday food drive for the food pantry in the early weeks of November with emphasis on items that would help create a wonderful Thanksgiving feast.

The food drive was a success, as many pounds of food was collected and donated to the Copperopolis Food Pantry.
