Cal Fire press release re: Fire Danger Exists Despite Cooler Weather

San Andreas – The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, is reminding all residents the burn suspension is still in effect, until further notice.  Fire danger remains above average across the Central Sierras and, even though we have recently experienced some moisture and cooler temperatures, the chance of large and damaging fires still exists. 

If a homeowner does conduct burning operations, during the time period when burning has been suspended, they are subject to the issuance of a citation (misdemeanor), fines, and may have to pay suppression costs to put the fire out.

CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit will continue to monitor the weather and fuel conditions, and will lift the burn suspension when conditions allow for safe burning.

CalFire press release re: Time Change, Check Smoke Alarms

San Andreas –Daylight Savings time begins Sunday, March 9, 2014.  When you “spring” your clocks ahead an hour this is an excellent time to check your smoke alarms.

Smoke alarms should be:

·       Equipped with flashing lights, vibration and/or sound for anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing

·       Installed in all sleeping rooms

·       Installed in hallways that lead to sleeping areas

·       Installed in basements

·       Installed in each additional level of your home

To insure proper working order of your smoke alarm:

·       Test on a monthly basis

·       Vacuum once a year – dust and cobwebs can impair sensitivity

·       Change alkaline batteries annually

·       Replace every 10 years

CalFire press release re: Evacuation warning lifted, Graham Incident

San Andreas – As of 2:00 PM, Friday, July 27, 2012, the Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with CAL FIRE, has lifted the Evacuation Warning for the Clements Road area of Pine Mountain Lake east of Groveland.  The Evacuation Warning was issued yesterday, Thursday, July 26, 2012, at approximately 9:00 AM, as a precautionary safety measure for approximately 20 homes toward the end of Clements Road due to increased fire activity on the Graham Incident.  The Graham Incident started Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at approximately 3:10 PM, and has burned 100 acres, and is 20% contained.  As a reminder residents should remain vigilant and immediately report any smoke or fire seen outside containment lines.

CalFire press release re: injured firefighter

Injured Firefighter Listed in Stable Condition

 

Firefighter Nathan Fyock, who was struck by a civilian motorist last night while engaged in firefighting operations, underwent surgery overnight after he suffered major injuries from the accident. Fyock continues to receive treatment at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto and this morning is in good spirits.
