Saturday, August 23rd 2014 was a day that will long be remembered in Calaveras County.
Calaveras Unified School District Superintendent Mark Campbell's
recommendation that he be given authority to close down a number of
schools in the more rural areas of our county to meet the demands of a
balanced budget that he, his Financial Analyst and administrative team
botched, was given the green light from the Calaveras Unified Board of
Trustees by a vote of 4/1 with Trustee Greg Gustafson as the only vote
not in favor.
Also on a 4/1 vote, Gustafson dissenting, the Calaveras Unified Board of
Trustees again reaffirmed the two controversial $16,000 raises for the
Superintendent's Administrative staffers.
Those supporting Campbell couched any discussion or calls for
accountability from the public as "uncivil" and "finger pointing" in an
attempt to squelch the very emotional crowd.
After Saturday's 4 hour fiasco of a school board meeting this is about all that comes to my mind.

As with most issues of our day, we see the demise of cherished and
beloved institutions ravaged by the careless mismanagement of self
absorbed false leaders who cry foul along with their paid cheering
section when anyone dares to question their integrity, accountability
and overburdensome wages paid for by the hard working citizens who stand
in awe with disbelief.
How did this happen?
Slowly but surely as good people saw things that weren't right but decided to "go with the flow" and "not make waves".
That's how.
