Copper Volunteer Fire Association scholarship awarded to

The Copperopolis Volunteer Firefighters Association Dennis Powers $500.00 scholarship was awarded to Robert Gonzales at the Bret Harte Senior Awards night held 5-21-14.

 The award is named after Chief Dennis Powers, Copper Fire Chief for 27 years and given by current Copper Fire Chief Steve Kovacs.

Murphys Fire also presented a scholarship named after Dennis Powers as he was a Battalion Chief with that Dist for many years. Unbeknownst to both Murphys Fire and Copper Fire they both chose the same recipient for the Dennis Powers scholarship award. Well done Robert.

According to Roberts father Kenny Gonzales, Dennis was the driving force for Robert (Bobby) to want to become a firefighter. Robert will be attending college studying Fire Tech in the fall.

To be eligible, candidates must be entering into the fire or ems fields and either attending a 2 or 4 years college. 

Copper FIre looking for volunteers

Through a grant funded program to attract and retain volunteers Copper Fire is actively seeking volunteers for the Fire Department.

If you want to learn to be a volunteer fire fighter now is your opportunity.

Chief Kovacs also pointed out that there are "many non-firefighting opportunities for volunteers too."

CFPD Volunteers graduate County Fire Academy

On the evening of June 16, 2012, four Copperopolis Fire Protection District Volunteers proudly graduated the 19 week long County Fire Academy. Chief Jeff Millar, along with incoming Chief Steve Kovacs, CFPD Board member Steve Marks, Firefighter Matt Moore, and many family and friends were present to watch as the graduates proudly received their well earned diplomas.

Upon successful completion of the Firefighter Academy the volunteers received training/certification in:
First Responder
Professional Rescuer CPR and AED
Confined Space Awareness
Haz-Mat First Responder Operational
Fire Controll III
S-130, S-131, S-190
