I am Pat Garrahan and I’m a candidate for Calaveras County Sheriff.

I love Calaveras County.  That is why my wife Kate and I chose Valley Springs 22 years ago as the place to raise our three children.

I am a United States Marine Corps veteran and have over three decades of professional law enforcement experience. I started my career in a small town and later worked in a large urban city.  After I retired, I served two combat deployments in Afghanistan as a Law Enforcement Advisor for the U.S. Marine Corps. 

I have a broad base of policing experience in different communities and cultures. I want to put my experience to work for you.

Candidate for Sheriff - Pat Garrahan receives PORAC endorsement

Valley Springs, CA – The Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC) has officially endorsed Pat Garrahan for Calaveras County Sheriff. PORAC, incorporated in 1953, represents more than 64,000 public safety personnel, making it the largest public safety organization in California and the largest statewide public safety association in the nation.

“Pat Garrahan has the experience and dedication that Calaveras County needs to keep our neighborhoods safe,” said Steve Walker, President of PORAC’s Valley Chapter. “We are proud to endorse Pat Garrahan for Sheriff.”

Interview with Pat Garrahan, candidate for Sheriff

Pat Garrahan, Calaveras County resident of 22 years, threw his hat in the ring for the June 3, 2014 election running for Calaveras County Sheriff against incumbent Sheriff Gary Kuntz.

"I love this county...the people need and deserve good leadership...I have the experience and knowledge" to deliver that leadership.

Garrahan served in the USMC as an MP, continued his law enforcement career with the Oakland police department, retiring after 23 years in 2008 as a Lieutenant. Soon after retirement Garrahan was approached by the DOD (Department of Defense) to serve as an advisor for the USMC stationed in Afghanistan. He was tasked with training police related tasks: handling persons, weapons collection, evidence collection and biometrics (identifying measurable characteristics to identify people). He was the subject matter expert for the Battalion.
