William Richey set for pre-trial

Copperopolis resident William 'Bill' Ritchey was arrested at the Calaveras County Fair 5-19-12 for rape of a drugged victim, sex with a minor 3+ years younger, oral copulation victim intoxicated, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Pre-trial on this case is set for 7-20-12.

According to the Calaveras County DA's office, William Ritchey currently has two pending cases set for pre-trial at the Calaveras County Superior Court: the sex case (with child abuse vertical prosecution) pre-trial is set for 7-20-12 and a weapons case pre-trial is set for 7-27-12.

At the last hearing the District Attorney made an offer to Richey's attorney with regards to the sex case. On 7-20-12 Richey will have a chance to accept the offer or continue with his 'not guilty' plea and go to trial.(The offer has not been publicly disclosed at this time.)

Barbara Yook - candidate for Calaveras County DA - bio

Barbara is the current District Attorney for the County of Calaveras.  She is a career prosecutor committed to keeping our communities safe for our families.  Barbara leads a staff of 11 full time and 4 part time employees, including attorneys, peace officers and support staff, in the pursuit of justice for the citizens of Calaveras County. 

With the support of her talented and dedicated staff, Barbara has led the District Attorney’s Office through two of the toughest budget cycles in many years and is currently working on policy issues for the District Attorney’s Office related to “Criminal Justice Realignment”, the biggest change in criminal law and felony sentencing rules in decades.

David Singer bio- candidate for Calaveras County DA

I am 52 years old, and a homeowner in Rancho Calaveras.  From the time I was in junior high school, I have been interested in the law and politics.  My sixth grade project was on the Bill of Rights, and in the eighth grade I was Student Body President.  I have always possessed a strong moral character, a passion for justice and fairness, and a desire to someday enter public service.   I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles in 1981. I was accepted into Southwestern College of Law in Los Angeles right after college, but decided to take some time off from school to pursue some opportunities I had in the music industry.  I returned to school and received an Associate of Arts degree in Paralegal Studies from Southern California College of Business and Law in 1995.  Five years later, while working full time for the County of San Bernardino, I decided to return to law school and enrolled in the 4-year evening program at the University of LaVerne College of Law.  I transferred after 2 years to California Southern School of Law in Riverside, where I completed my Juris Doctor degree in 2004.  I passed the State Bar Exam in 2005, and began taking cases, mostly family law.  I wanted to get out of southern California and started looking for attorney positions in northern California.  It was while driving from Sacrament airport to an employment interview in San Andreas that I was taken in by the beauty, history, and rural character of Calaveras County.

Singer seeks DA position

Attorney David Singer spent some time this past weekend at the Copperopolis Chili cookoff meeting with residents and visitors alike collecting nomination signatures for the Calaveras County district attorney position currently held by Barbara Yook who was appointed in 2010 after DA Jeff Tuttle passed away.

In 2010, Singer had run for the District 5 Supervisor seat, then covering Rancho Calaveras, Copperopolis and more. Eliminated in a three way primary race, Singer turned his sights to District Attorney.

Singer practices criminal law in San Andreas and has been licensed for 4 1/2 years.

Yook will also seek to retain her position.Yook has practiced law for 14 years beginning with misdemeanors and moving to narcotics and sex crimes. When she took over in 2010 she also assumed the departments budget responsibilities.
