A splash of red, a slice of golden yellow, strokes of rich colors and the deep passion that guides the brush creates the beauty and depth of feeling seen and felt within Judie Cain’s oil paintings.
Many years ago, as abstract art was being born, Judie was studying at the California College of Arts in Oakland. She spent hours practicing, studying and absorbing art yet became discouraged as fellow students would splash about paint without applied techniques and call it art. Changing degrees she aspired to teach the deaf; a career she found rewarding and creative. Adding a nutritional education along the way helped her to round out her philosophies of life which she handed down to her three children.
After the children were raised and it became time for Judie to concentrate on what her desires were, her heart naturally turned to art. Picking up the brush again was a calling.
Referring to herself as a colorist does not give justice to the passionate and powerful use of colors in her paintings. Though her award winning paintings and those on display at Snaps are floral arrangements, Judie has a well rounded collection of subjects; from dogs to small children, houses to pastoral scenes and seascapes.
Walking through her gallery in Forest Meadows is akin to taking a journey through her life. Dotted among the bright and cheerful floral collections, scenic valleys and many dog portraits are but a few somber, more reserved paintings. These paintings will make you stop to first admire the talent and second to question the haunting beauty that lay beneath. When asked about these paintings that seem to draw so much emotion, it was then that Judie shared the loss of her son. It was during this time of loss that these paintings were created. Judie felt that she may have lost her passion for painting as she lost her son, but it is clearly evident that Judie found more, pouring her feelings into her work without realizing the power held within the oils drying on the canvas.
Judie is the artist of the month at Town Hall Arts in Town Square and has shown in galleries from Seattle to New Mexico, Washington to Carmel.
