Walt and Virginia Ball were selected as this years’ Grand Marshal's, honoring them for their many contributions to the community throughout their years as active members of the Copperopolis Community.
“Since moving here, both Walt and Virginia have been a great asset to the community and were active in many local organizations,” said President of the Copperopolis Community Center Sandy Rollings.
Walt and Virginia moved to Copperopolis in 1990 when Walt retired from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Walt had spent the last ten years of his career as Captain on Fireboat 5 and was instrumental in developing Los Angles Dive/Water rescue Team. He was the first member of the L.A. City Fire to ever receive not one, but two Medals of Valor for his actions.
Soon after relocating to Copperopolis Virginia embraced her love of horses, Tennessee Walkers to be specific. She breed and raised Tennessee Walker Horses at their 40+ acre ranch located on Little John Road, known as Walking on Ranch, she also spent many hours volunteering at the Copperopolis Food Pantry, was active in the Lake Tulloch Quilters and a member of the Copperopolis Library Board.
Walt, with his expertise in fire fighting, served on the Copperopolis Fire Protection District Board of Directors. He also was a founding member of the Copperopolis Area Business Association and Board Member of the Copper cove Homeowners Association.
Both Walt and Virginia have been active members and served in leadership positions at the Crossroads Church. They are the parents of 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
