Gearing up for Fire Season, From your friends at the Anglican Church of the Ascension

Enjoy what’s left of the cold, damp weather, it will be gone soon.  Build a fire, make some s’mores, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and play some board games.  We’re all looking forward to a beautiful springtime here in the foothills.  Spring will give way to the dry summer.  Is it ever too early to start planning to prevent wild fires?  We don’t think so.
Early burning, what a great way to keep warm and get the jump on spring burning at the same time.  So it means braving the cold to start, once your fire gets going, it’s all downhill.  Burn barrels are no longer permissible and your pile must not be larger than four feet by four feet (4’x4’).  Don’t forget your burn permit if your property consists of more than five acres OR if you are a contractor OR if we are officially in Fire Season.  Also, before lighting that fire, call to see if it’s a burn day.
For information on Permits:  Air Pollution Control Board, San Andreas – 754-6399
WWW.CO.CALAVERAS.CA.US  then look for “Air Pollution Control”
During fire season, permits may be obtained at CDF in Copperopolis – 785-2234
Burn or No-Burn Day:  754-6600
Copperopolis area:  785-7664
Another aspect of planning ahead is to work together as a community, start with your neighbors, in establishing an evacuation response.
