Sierra Repertory Theatre is giving a sneak preview of its new youth theatre program with its production of Jason and the Argonauts, a 45-minute musical comedy written by new SRT Education Director Ralph Krumins (Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story). Based on the ancient Greek hero, the fast paced show for children will feature three actors playing over 20 roles and will play at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Fallon House Theatre in Columbia on December 7, 8, 14 and 15.  Tickets are $5 for children and $10 for adults.

With the help of the audience and brave Argonauts such as Orpheus and Hercules, he will conquer many dangers before he claims his prize. PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA

The first Thanksgiving in 1621 was a celebration of the harvest that brought together the Pilgrims of Plymouth Plantation and the Native Americans who helped them adapt to their new environment. Over the years Thanksgiving became an American tradition and one of the first holidays we celebrated as a free and independent nation. In 1789, George Washington proclaimed the first Thanksgiving observance in the newly formed United States of America, writing that “it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor.”

History of Thanksgiving

In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn't until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

Sheriff Dept Press Release re : Public Awareness Advisement

(Valley Springs, CA) The Calaveras County Sheriffs Office is currently investigating a series of indecent exposure incidents  in the Valley Springs area. Since November 1, 2013 the sheriffs Office has received  at least four calls concerning a male adult exposing his genitalia to women.
According to  reports the man would exit his vehicle, walk up to the women, and state that he Wanted to show them his genitalia.  He would then expose himself  and then immediately leave  the area. The man is described as Caucasian, in  his early  to mid 20's; 5'6-5'7 in height with an average build. He has medium length dark hair. He is possibly driving a foreign model 4-door Car with a  short antenna on the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle's color is vaguely described as white, tan, silver-gold, or off white. The sheriffs office requests that if anyone should have any information about the offender or have any contact with him immediately leave the area and call 911. Do not try to detain or confront this person yourself. Deputies and investigators are actively working to learn his identity.

New Melones Fishing Report from Glory Hole Sports

Water Conditions:  New Melones Lake is currently holding 1,035,227 acre-feet of water.  The lake level rose very little this week and is currently at 947 ft. above sea level and 139 ft. from full.  The water is fairly clear in some areas and slightly stained in others.  The water temperature will be cooling a bit each week until the lake turns over.  The lake has cooled some and is 58-64 degrees depending on what part of the lake you are fishing.  The docks have been moved on Glory Hole Point.  This makes for an easy launch and very short walk to and from the parking lot.
Jeff Henry and his son Tristan caught a couple nice rainbows while fishing near Glory Hole Point.

CHP Maximum enforcement begins 11-26-13 through 12-1-13

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With the Thanksgiving travel season approaching, the California
Highway Patrol (CHP) is reminding all motorists to ensure everyone inside their vehicle is buckled up, before heading out. Whether your travels take you across the country or just across town, buckling up is one way to help secure a safe arrival at your destination.
“Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year,” said CHP Commissioner
Joe Farrow. “As the volume of traffic on the roadways increases so does the risk of being involved in a serious or deadly collision.”

Hypnotist Ron Stubbs

Hypnotist Ron Stubbs descended on Copper Friday, 11-22-13, night with a flurry of action. Coming all the way from Washington and performing the night before at Black Oak Casino Ron was more than ready to take on our little town of Copper and he quickly found some willing participants.

After some suggestive workings three of the seven volunteers were under rather quickly. Within a few minutes Ron had the volunteers dancing like ballerinas, believing he himself was the handsome Brad Pit and a couple dancing with a microphone with a wig. The microphone played a major role with one volunteer as Ron explained to him that the microphone was the most beautiful women he had ever seen, causing the volunteer to show his best moves for wooing a woman.

The show was opened by Copper's own comedian Julia Fretwell and was brought to the Sports Pub by Del T. of Class Act Comedy.

Rural Fire Fee to increase

California’s disputed fire prevention fee may be even more difficult for rural residents to swallow next year.
State law requires the fee to automatically adjust upward for inflation — even though about $26 million already collected remains unspent.
The hike amounts to $2.33, netting the state an additional $1.7 million on top of the $72 million in current fees expected from mostly rural residents. That will push the price to $117.33 or $152.33, depending on the property location.
Opponents say it’s the principle — not the size of the fee increase — that matters.
“This rubs salt in the wound,” said San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, a strident critic of the fee.

SRT's "Its a Wonderful Life" simply WONDERFUL!

Sierra Repertory Theatre's performance of 'Its a Wonderful Life' is engaging, entertaining and packed with talented energy.

The moment you enter the theater you are drawn into the world of live radio. A world where sounds are created without mixers and computers, where actors and actresses must entertain a live crowd while performing many different roles for the radio audience at a non-stop pace.

The outcome? Pure genius!

With the simple act of closing your eyes, 'Its a Wonderful Life' can transport you back to a time when life was much simpler and entertainment came through a radio sitting in the middle of the living room with the family gathered around for the weekly show. However upon opening your eyes you are treated to the comedic actions and raw emotions of the actors in their various and multiple roles.

To Dine or not To Dine....

This weeks restaurant - The Willow in Jamestown.

Now while I really enjoy writing these restaurant reviews it has inadvertently wreaked havoc on my waistline. So with the holidays fast approaching and that little black dress suspiciously shrinking in the back of my closet I have chosen to attempt a low carb type diet. With this said, much to my taste-buds disappointment, my reviews will be lacking in information on the best things in life, like desserts, cream soups, etc.

But the up side? Hopefully I will be able to shed some light on the best steak eateries around this area.

On a blustery day, I headed to yet another great play by the Sierra Repertory Theatre in Sonora with my good friend in tow. As has become our regular routine, we shop or we soak up culture and then we hit the Willow for a little nip of something and a tasty bite to eat. Last visit I indulged myself with the best Philly cheese-steak this side of Philly as well as some fresh bread and creamy dumpling soup. Can you see why the waistline is becoming an issue? Well I forgot to give the Willow a write up for this little side trip, so lucky me, I had another opportunity to sample their fare, only this time, low on the carbs.
