Carl Torgersen, 58, of Manteca, has been appointed deputy director of the State Water Project at the California Department of Water Resources. Torgersen has served as acting deputy director of the Department of Water Resources since 2011. He has served in various positions with the Department of Water Resources since 1981, including chief of the division of operations and maintenance from 2006 to 2011, chief of the State Water Project operations control office from 2000 to 2006, chief of the San Luis field division from 1999 to 2000, chief of the powerplants section from 1992 to 1996 and staff mechanical engineer in the mechanical design branch from 1981 to 1992. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $156,972. Torgersen is a Republican.
Paul Slavik, 70, of Huntington Beach, has been appointed to the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission, where he has served since 2008. Slavik previously served in various positions with the American Honda Motor Company, including national off-highway motor vehicle coordinator from 1990 to 2005, field service representative from 1980 to 1990 and dealer technical advisor from 1976 to 1980. He has been a member of the American Motorcyclist Association since 1962 and was a member of the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council from 1990 to 2005. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Slavik is a Republican.
Michael Weston, 41, of Rocklin, has been appointed deputy director of public relations and outreach at the California Department of Social Services. Weston has been acting deputy director of public relations and outreach at the Department of Social Services since 2011, and has worked at the department in multiple positions since 2006. He was a news producer at KCRA-TV from 2000 to 2006, a news producer at KSEE-TV from 1997 to 2000 and a news producer at KMIR-TV from 1996 to 1997. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $84,756. Weston is registered decline-to-state.
