CFPD Volunteers Receive EMT National Registry Certification

CFPD Volunteer Firefighters Aaron Smith and Richard Molina recently completed a four month EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) course and passed the National Registry for certification.
EMT course work is an in depth medical training program involving up to 180 hours of class and hands on emergency medical training. This course is required prior to Paramedic training. Upon completion of the course the individual is then required to take the National Registry examination. The National Registry was created in 1970 to establish uniform standards for training and examination of personnel active in the delivery of emergency services. Currently, 46 States recognize  the National Registry certification; the certified EMT is acknowledged as a bonafide member of the health care team.
Aaron, 21, and Ricky, 26, became volunteers last year after completing a six month fire academy at Columbia College. Since they have become volunteers their training at Copper Fire has also allowed them to receive multiple wildland certificates including S-131, S-190, S-130, and L-180. They have also received certificates and training in First Responder, CPR, ICS-200, Haz-Mat, Confined Space rescue, Fire control 3-A, and emergency landing zone training. Soon to add to their list of certifications will be auto extrication.
Aaron and Ricky are celebrating one year with Copper Fire this month.
