Sonora Regional Cancer Center Welcomes New Hematologist-Oncologist

November 12, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Sonora Regional Cancer Center welcomes Roozbeh Mohajer, MD, a hematologist-oncologist and hospice and palliative medicine specialist who has joined Mussa Banisadre, MD, and Abdol Mojab, MD, at the Center. Dr. Mohajer will provide care for patients fulltime in Sonora. He will also serve as the medical director of Oncology Services and help with the development of the new Cancer Center soon to be constructed at the corner of Greenley Road and Mono Way.

Dr. Mohajer earned his medical degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. He completed his residency in internal medicine with the University of Illinois at St. Joseph Hospital. He also completed fellowship training in hospice and palliative medicine at Rush University Medical Center and hematology-oncology fellowship at Stronger Hospital of Cook County in Illinois.

Dr. Mohajer has significant training and experience in all areas of hematology and oncology with a particular interest in solid tumor cancers including cancers of the lung and breast. He appreciates the dynamic nature of oncology. “There are always newer ways of treating cancer,” he explains.

“We also get to see the humanistic and holistic side of medicine,” Dr. Mohajer explains about treating cancer patients. “My patients are in the most vulnerable time in their lives. It is rewarding as I walk with them through the process and relieve some of their burden.”

Dr. Mohajer is excited to be a part of the development of the new Cancer Center and to continue the excellent patient care at Sonora Regional Cancer Center. Moving to Sonora will be a big change as he has spent the last several years in Chicago but he looks forward to providing a significant contribution in a smaller community.

Dr. Mohajer has moved to Sonora with his wife, Anahid Hekmat, MD, a neurologist and sleep medicine specialist who will help develop the Medical Center’s new sleep center. Together Drs. Mohajer and Hekmat enjoy music and maintaining active lifestyles with swimming, hiking and skiing among their top interests. They are both accomplished writers having written several publications on medical topics.

To schedule an appointment with Dr. Mohajer, please call Sonora Regional Cancer Center at 209-536-5155.
