Copperopolis Pride Clean up day by Dena McAfee

Copperopolis Parks & Recreation honors Earth Day by hosting a community-wide, road side clean-up each April. Although only 15 volunteers turned out this year, they made a huge improvement picking up trash on O’Byrnes Ferry Road, Copper Cove Drive, and out on the lake.

The good news is, there was noticeably less debris on the lake and roadsides than previous years. Pastor Sean Paulson brought along the largest crew of volunteers and our trio of dedicated Clampers brought in the largest haul of trash. Typically, the Lake Tulloch Lions tend to their adopted stretch of Highway 4 the same day as the Copper Clean-Up, but they managed to get their cleaning done last weekend.

The award for the most unusual find goes to Ray who uncovered an old miner’s skillet from a drainage ditch. Ron came in a close second with what is guessed to be a Corvette side-pipe.

And a HUGE thank you goes to Kevin of Young’s IGA Payless for feeding the work crews! Kevin cooked and served a hearty lunch of cheeseburgers, hotdogs, chips and fruit and some very welcomed ice-cold drinks.

Thank you to Bruce Reid for coordinating volunteers, dumpsters, and equipment.
