Anderson, with many years of law enforcement and military background, submitted his letter of interest along with others in November 2012. After interviews and review of letters of interest Anderson was chosen unanimously by the Board to fill the position that had been left vacant by Barbara Cheney who had resigned after many years of service to spend more time with family.
In a written statement to the press Anderson stated, "I am looking forward to working with the Board members, Chief Kovacs and the members of Copperopolis Fire Protection District. My goal is to assist the district in providing the best fire protection and service possible along with helping the department to obtain all the tools and funding necessary to do so."
