(Murphys, CA) On 12/03/12 at approx. 1:15 pm Calaveras County
Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop in Murphys. The
car, being driven by Sheri Hines (43) of Angels Camp, had expired
registration and an equipment violation. A second person, Michael Outley
(28) of Angels Camp, was a passenger in the vehicle. Upon checking the
driver’s license and/or wants/wanted status of both persons the deputy
learned that Suspect Outley was on active state parole and probation out
of Stanislaus County.
A search was subsequently conducted of the vehicle and of the
suspects per Suspect Outley’s parole/probation search terms, and with
their consent. The search of the vehicle revealed a wallet admittedly
belonging to Suspect Hines. Inside the wallet the deputy located two
bindles containing suspected methamphetamine. Both bindles weighed
approximately .2 grams each. A baggie of suspect marijuana, weighing
approximately 2.7 grams, was found inside the glove box. Additionally,
two cans of pepper spray were located inside the vehicle; one in the
glove box and one in the driver’s side door pocket.
Suspect Outley’s parole officer was telephoned and advised of the
contact. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Calaveras
County jail. Suspect Hines was charged with Possession of a Controlled
Substance (felony) and Possession of a Tear Gas Weapon by an Addict
(felony). Suspect Outley was charged with Possession of a Tear Gas
Weapon by a Felon (felony), Possession of Marijuana (infraction), and
Violation of Parole.
