Sheriff Dept Press release re:Car Stop Leads to Two Felony Arrests for Tear Gas and Drug Violations

 (Murphys, CA) On 12/03/12 at approx. 1:15 pm Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop in Murphys. The car, being driven by Sheri Hines (43) of Angels Camp, had expired registration and an equipment violation. A second person, Michael Outley (28) of Angels Camp, was a passenger in the vehicle. Upon checking the driver’s license and/or wants/wanted status of both persons the deputy learned that Suspect Outley was on active state parole and probation out of Stanislaus County.


A search was subsequently conducted of the vehicle and of the suspects per Suspect Outley’s parole/probation search terms, and with their consent. The search of the vehicle revealed a wallet admittedly belonging to Suspect Hines. Inside the wallet the deputy located two bindles containing suspected methamphetamine. Both bindles weighed approximately .2 grams each. A baggie of suspect marijuana, weighing approximately 2.7 grams, was found inside the glove box. Additionally, two cans of pepper spray were located inside the vehicle; one in the glove box and one in the driver’s side door pocket.

Suspect Outley’s parole officer was telephoned and advised of the contact. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Calaveras County jail. Suspect Hines was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (felony) and Possession of a Tear Gas Weapon by an Addict (felony). Suspect Outley was charged with Possession of a Tear Gas Weapon by a Felon (felony), Possession of Marijuana (infraction), and Violation of Parole.
