Sonora PD Press Release: New Officer

The City of Sonora advertised and tested for the classification of Lateral Police Officer. Matthew Sieperda successfully completed all related testing, as well as an extensive background investigation, before being appointed to the position of Police Officer.
Matthew Sieperda was born in California and lived in Fresno and Kerman before moving to Nebraska at the age of 11. He graduated from Chase County High School in Imperial Nebraska, population of 2,071.


Matthew graduated from Dordt Christian College in Iowa with a BA in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. While in college, Matthew traveled to two countries and performed volunteer work. He also met his wife, who is from Escalon, Ca, while attending college in Iowa.
After graduating from college, Matthew moved back to California and put himself through the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Regional Training Academy. Matthew graduated with honors from the police academy and was recognized for having the highest academic scores for his class.
After graduating from the Police Academy, Matthew was hired by the Bakersfield Police Department, where he has worked since April 2010.
