Sonora PD press release re: Felony Assault Arrest

19 September 2014, at approx. 2:36 am, Officers responded to the area of the Office Bar (155 S. Washington Street) for a report of physical fight that had just ended, with an unconscious victim on the ground.
When Officers arrived, they located an unconscious 26 year old male from Wi Wuk. This subject sustained major head trauma and several broken bones in his face as a result from the attack. The victim was flow to a Modesto area hospital for treatment.
A second male victim, who is a friend of the first victim, was located at the scene. He was suffering from a large laceration above one eye, broken teeth and a broken jaw. He too was 26 and from Mi Wuk.




Witnesses related both victims were inside the Office Bar, when one of the victims lost a pool game to another subject. Apparently, there was a $100 wager on the pool game, which one of the victims would not pay after losing.
Three subjects who were identified as Ronald Votaw, 25 of Jamestown; David Cobb, 24 of Sonora; Nathaniel Duckett, 29 of Sonora, started verbally harassing the looser of the pool game and threatening him to pay up. One of these subjects was the winner of the pool game in question.
At closing time, the three subjects left the bar. Then when the two victims exited the bar, they were attacked by the three suspects. Both victims were punched and they fell to the ground, then the suspects started kicking and hitting the victims in the face, once they were on the ground. After attacking the two victims, all three suspects fled the area.
Later, Votaw, Cobb and Duckett were located and taken into custody. All three were transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for felony battery resulting in great bodily injury and felony assault with a deadly weapon.
