Sonora Regional Medical Center Welcomes New Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist

August 19, 2014 (Sonora, CA) — Sonora Regional Medical Center welcomes Christopher Jones, MD, an Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) specialist who has joined Donovan Teel, MD; Christopher Mills, MD; and Matthew Maynard, DO at Sierra OB/GYN.

Dr. Jones attended Modesto Junior College before earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from University of California, Santa Cruz. He went on to earn a Medical Degree and complete his residency in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Jones earned several honors and awards throughout his education including the Outstanding Resident Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the James R. Green Memorial Award for excellence in caring for the underserved.

Dr. Jones always dreamed of being a doctor. His pediatrician was his childhood hero. Growing up in Turlock and the first in his family to graduate high school, Dr. Jones admits that a career in medicine was not exactly the path laid before him. Dr. Jones worked into his mid-20s before pursuing a medical degree.

While it was always his dream to become a pediatrician, it became evident while participating in UTEACH, when he was paired with an expectant mother throughout her pregnancy, labor and delivery, that Dr. Jones’s true passion was in OB/GYN. “It is the most amazing privilege to help bring a new life into the world,” explains Dr. Jones.

In addition to obstetrics, Dr. Jones has a special interest in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and treating women for incontinence and symptoms of menopause. “I love being able to care for the whole person,” he says.

Dr. Jones couldn’t be happier with his move to Sonora. He is pleased to be joining the other physicians at Sierra OB/GYN and excited about starting his practice here. He is looking forward to living in the foothills after spending a lot of time in his youth hiking and fishing in the Sierra.

Dr. Jones is accepting new patients. Please call Sierra OB/GYN at 209-536-3750 to schedule an appointment.
