Youth Tennis Clinics

Registrations Open For
Youth Tennis Clinics

Registrations are now being accepted for a series of Youth Tennis Clinics to be held in Calaveras County beginning June 9.
Organized by Angella Woods, a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) since 2003, the program is open to all junior players, ages 6 to 17, with a special emphasis on current and aspiring high school athletes.  The sessions will be held at Bret Harte High School, Angels Camp, and the Wintercreek Tennis Facility in Murphys

The clinics will be divided into five sessions, each scheduled for Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.  The first will be held from June 9 to 13, at Bret Harte.  Open to 11 to 17 years olds, it is designed for advanced beginning, intermediate, and advanced players.
The second session, June 16 – 20, will be at both locations.  Advanced players, 13 to 17 years old, will meet at Bret Harte.  Beginners and advanced beginners, ages 6 to 10, will be instructed in Murphys.
June 23 -27 the clinic, at Bret Harte, will be for 10 – 14 year old advanced beginner and intermediate players.
July 7 – 11, advanced beginner and intermediate players, ages 10-14, will be instructed in Murphys.
The final session, July 14 – 18, will be at Bret Harte for advanced beginner, intermediate, and advanced players ages 10 through 17.
Woods, who has been a teaching professional in Calaveras County for ten years, will be joined by Jim Triolo, a USPTA professional with over thirty years of teaching experience, and Tom Reiter, who was Bret Harte’s head coach for twenty years, in conducting the clinics.
“It is our goal for each student to have fun while learning the skills needed to build a strong foundation for the game of tennis,” says Woods.  “We want to help navigate the player to their full potential so that they will experience new heights of enjoyment and personal growth.”
Students will learn skills through a variety of game based drills and activities.  The format will include the progressions for serving, groundstrokes, and volleying.  They will learn strategies and court positioning for both singles and doubles match play.
The cost for each clinic is $90 per person.  Reservations may be made by contacting Woods by email at madfortennis@yahoo.com, or by phoning her at (209) 728-2497 or (209) 770-5076.
Bret Harte High School is located at 323 S Main St, Angels Camp.  The Wintercreek Facility is located adjacent to the historic schoolhouse on Jones St. in Murphys.
