Winning Ways Advice Column - by, Marge Powers

You Can Make It Happen!

Dear Readers:

I don’t know if was fate or destiny, but I bumped into five people last month telling me they were stuck or lost in their certain predicaments; two of them were unemployed and didn’t know where to start the search, two of them were having personal issues and confused,  and one of them was newly retired and felt lost.

So, in utilizing the 80 years I have been on this planet, and what I have learned, I gave them the following tips, and decided to also send them to you readers in the Copper Gazette, because ‘who doesn’t have problems’…  Right?

Sincerely,   Marge ‘Magic’ Powers

Step 1: Who are you?  Before you decide what you want in your life, you first must understand who you are, what the influences are on your life, your values, and passions and why you act and think the way you do.

Step 2: Create Your Vision.   Stop and Think:  To seek a better life and in order to solve life’s predicaments, you first have decide what you want.  In this way, you can set realistic goals for yourself, your job or career, and/or the retirement lifestyle role you want.  If you are not clear, you’ll be continually lost and confused.

Step 3: Develop a Plan.  Once you are clear and you goals are set, the next step is to develop a plan to go after those goals, but it must be consistent with the values, passions and principles that you’ve chosen to guide your life.

Step 4: Master the Rules of the Road.  When driving on the highway, you have to follow the rules of the road in order to reach your destination safely; the same holds true when pursuing your career, retirement and life goals.  There will always be distractions and disappointments in life, but by educating yourself, looking at the possible solutions (not concentrating on the problems), learning how to stay focused and self-motivated you can easily stay on track.
Step 5: Step into the Outer Limits.  In order to reach your goals, you are going to have to push yourself and take risks that move you beyond your comfort zone.  Once you educate yourself and look for possible solutions, you will be able to motivate yourself to take well-calculated risks.  This will help you find the courage to push yourself into those outer limits where you can grow and thrive.

Step 6: Pilot the Seasons of Change.  To change the results you have been getting in life, you have to change your mind-set and approach.  That may mean; changing how your think; changing the people you hang out with; changing the place you live; or changing your attitude.  It is impossible to move ahead without leaving something behind, and understand how to get clear and know how to handle the stages of positive change to solve your challenges.

Step 7: Build your Dream Team.  I don’t know anyone who has achieved success without help along the way.  Building supportive relationships and learning how to be both trustworthy and trusting is a key element in the Success Process.  You may also consider getting rid of the toxic people in your life, all they do is drain your energy, and hurt your confidence level.

Step 8: Win by a Decision.  Making the right decisions is crucial to building a successful life.  There is a process for evaluating decisions; research, read, take classes and educate yourself in the areas you want to change and then you can make better-educated decisions and how to best handle your specific issues.  Don’t wait for the world to fix it, that’s not going to happen.  It’s up to you…this is where you have lost your power in the past.

Step 9: Commit to Your Vision.  Most people have dreams; the secret is in learning to transform them into realistic goals and then committing to them.  Having a commitment to your goals involves devoting your time and energy to the pursuit of your vision and making it a top priority in your life.  Life is busy, but you need to take care of yourself first, make sense?

Step 10:  Stop Making It All Wrong.  Challenges are part of life, if you continually have a mind-set of ‘make wrong’s’, you will be unhappy, feel tons of stress, and always feel sad, angry, or lost.  Accept the fact that life will give you your share of problems and challenges…that’s the way life is.  Look for the possible ways to work past them, and reclaim your power!

Note:  However you live your life, the main thing is to experience it fully and not let your fears keep you from enjoying your life fully!  So, take charge and get on with it!!!    J
