Sierra Rep Sound of Music auditions

Sierra Rep Sound of Music Auditions and Workshop Set for End of Month
Sierra Repertory Theatre will hold auditions for all youth parts for its summer production of The Sound of Music on Tuesday, April 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. No sign up is necessary. Director Scott Viets will also partner with Sierra Rep Jr. and Education Director Ralph Krumins to lead a special pre-audition workshop the day before.
The free workshop on Monday, March 31 for children ages 5 to 18 will feature theatre games and light singing and dance, all geared around The Sound of Music and preparation for auditions. Ages 5-9 will meet from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and ages 10 to 18 will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participation in the workshop is not required to attend the official open call audition the following day. Sierra Rep will hold both the workshop and auditions at the East Sonora Rehearsal Annex located at 13891 Mono Way.

Open roles include all the Von Trapp children: Liesel (age 17-21, must appear 16 and must dance), Friedrich (age 11-16, must appear 14), Louisa (age 11-15, must appear 13), Kurt (age 9-13, must appear 10 or 11), Brigitta (age 7-12, must appear 9), Marta (age 6-10, must appear 7), and Gretl (age 5-8, must appear 6). All roles require singing, movement and a strong stage presence, as well as the ability and commitment to focus, take direction and work well with others. No previous theatrical experience necessary. Actors must be available for all rehearsals and performances, starting June 17 and running through August 31. There is pay.
Based on the true story of the Von Trapp family in Austria, The Sound of Music has it all - an irrepressible heroine who finds her calling, lonely children who find a mother, an aloof Naval officer who finds a wife, and a united family who find courage in one another as they escape the approaching evil of the Third Reich. The musical features beloved songs including "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," and "Edelweiss."
Sierra Rep’s production of The Sound of Music plays July 11 through August 31 at the Fallon House Theatre in Columbia State Park. Tickets cost $26-32 depending on date, time and seating, with student and senior rates available. For tickets and information, visit www.sierrarep.org or call the Box Office at 209-532-3120.
