The new jail, almost completed, is funded my Measure J funds. The measure passed in 2007 which matches state funding to build a new jail and Sheriff station.
The new jail sits at approximately 43,000 square feet with multiple cells, high tech surveillance and visitor communication stations, state of the art kitchen, evidence room, and intake chute.
The jail and Sheriff station is designed for growth.
Sheriff Gary Kuntz, looking to help offset the cost of manning the facility, is considering inmate contracts with Amador and Tuolumne as well as potentially taking in female Federal prisoners.
