Ponte Selected as New Chair Board of Supervisors

Debbie Ponte, elected in 2012 as Supervisor of District 4, was selected as Chair of the Board of Supervisors at the 1-14-14 meeting to serve beside Vice Chair District 1 Supervisor Cliff Edson.

Ponte is "honored to be selected as Chair of the BOS 2014" and looks forward to the many challenges and opportunities facing Calaveras County in the upcoming year. She plans to "work with civility in a collaborative effort with my colleagues, other local and state agencies on all levels to achieve our top priorities."

According to Ponte the Board identified the top priorities within the County at the 1-7-14 workshop, with the General Plan and the Budget being at the top of the list.   "In the following weeks, the Board will be sharing our 5 to 7 top priorities, and as Chair, my role will be to keep my colleagues and I on track to completing these priorities."

Ponte feels her years of experience on the City of Angels City Council,  Chair of the Utica Power Authority and working within the business industry will help guide her during her tenure as Chair.

As far as the Board of Supervisors moving their meeting room any time soon, "It has not been decided yet what to do with the space vacated by the Courts last year. In addition, with the pending relocation of the Jail and Sheriff's Dept., we will have more empty space to deal with.  The CAO office working with a committee will be making recommendations to the BOS sometime this year to help determine what to do with the space."
