Christopher Columbus Essay Contest Winner Announced

The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution in conjunction with the National Italian American Foundation sponsor an annual essay contest on Christopher Columbus.  The Sierra Amador Chapter, NSDAR is pleased to announce this year’s chapter winner is Monique Salinger who is a 12th grade student at Argonaut High School.
The essay contest was open to all students in grades 9 through 12 in public, private, parochial or home schools throughout Calaveras and Amador counties.  Information regarding the essay contest was distributed to ten eligible schools in Calaveras County and five eligible schools in Amador County.

The Sierra Amador Chapter was pleased to receive three essays by the November 1st deadline for judging.  All three essays were submitted by Amador County students from a variety of schools.  Monique’s essay was selected by a panel of three judges as the winning essay for the Sierra Amador Chapter and forwarded to the NSDAR District for judging against other chapter winners from the eleven NSDAR Chapters in the northern part of California.
Ms. Salinger’s essay was selected as the district winner out of three other essays submitted.  The Sierra Amador Chapter was very excited to see a local student from Amador County achieve such wonderful recognition for her well written essay.  Monique’s essay is now on its way to a regional judging against other District’s within California.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see her essay progress through the steps to the national level?
Monique was presented with a winning essay certificate along with a $100.00 cash award at the January meeting of the Sierra Amador Chapter, NSDAR on Thursday January 16th in Jackson California (photo below) where she read her winning essay to the group gathered.
