(West Point, CA) On July 19, 2013 at 9:10 pm Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 3800 block of Lily Gap Road in West Point for a suspicious circumstance. According to reporting parties an adult male stole a logging truck and had been detained by residents in the area. During the investigation the deputies learned that Arrestee Roger Gibbings (42) of West Point allegedly stole a large logging vehicle that belonged to Sierra Pacific Industries. He then proceeded to crash through two metal gates causing $2000.00 in damage to the gates.

Neighbors heard the noise of the logging vehicle, realized that it had been stolen, and began chasing the vehicle. During the chase the vehicle became stuck on a hillside, at which time the neighbors confronted Gibbings with a firearm and placed him under citizen’s arrest. They detained Arrestee Gibbings until deputies could arrive. The investigation revealed that not only had Arrestee Gibbings stole the logging vehicle, but he was also in possession of a stolen truck just prior to taking the logging vehicle. A female adult identified as Cena Fillmore (22) of West Point was with Gibbings during this incident. She fled on foot from the logging vehicle when it became stuck. She was soon captured by deputies after receiving phone calls from local residents of her whereabouts. The stolen logging vehicle was described as a “Skingine” and valued at $500,000.00. Several articles of property recently taken from residential burglaries in the area were also recovered from the stolen truck.

Arrestees Roger Gibbings and Cena Fillmore were booked into the Calaveras County jail on the charges of Burglary (felony), Vehicle Theft (felony), Vandalism (felony), and Possession of Stolen Property (misdemeanor). Additionally, Arrestee Gibbings was arrested on an active California Department of Corrections felony parole violation warrant.
