Sonora PD press release re: drug arrest

14 June 2013, at approx. 9:19 pm, Wal-Mart Loss Prevention called the Sonora Police Department and reported that a theft had just occurred. They gave a description of the responsible male, who had exited the store and was walking eastbound through the parking lot.
A subject matching the description of the theft suspect was observed walking into Safeway by police department personnel. Officers entered Safeway and located the subject hiding inside a locked stall of the women’s restroom. Also located in the stall was a Marlboro box containing 13.7 grams of heroin.
The subject was identified as Nicholas Rios, 20 of Sonora. Rios stated he saw the Officers in the parking lot so he ran and hide, because he knew he had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. Rios was placed under arrested and transported to the Tuolumne County Jail.
Rios was booked for felony possession of a controlled substance. He was also booked on four warrants; one was a no bail warrant for felony hit and run; another felony warrant for violation of probation; and two misdemeanor warrants for theft.
