CHP New Years Weekend stats - corrected - press release

CHP New Years Weekend Statistics

SAN ANDREASIn Calaveras County, 4 people were arrested by the CHP between 6:00 pm Friday and 11:59 pm Tuesday.  2 arrests were for Driving Under the Influence compared to 1 person being arrested last year.  Our officers handled 4 accidents, none were DUI related.  Last year there were 5 accidents during this same time period.  And for the second year in a row we had 0 fatalities for the county.

The San Andreas CHP Officers were working hard at slowing motorists down.  During the holiday weekend they wrote 39 citations.  Most were for speeding including several mechanical violations.  There were 5 citations issued for failing to wear their seatbelt, failing to stop at a stop sign, passing over solid double yellow line, an open container of alcohol, and possession of marijuana.

This year we saw a reduction in accidents for the county.  The San Andreas Area handled 509 collisions compared to 560 in 2011.  Unfortunately we had 9 fatal accidents with 10 fatalities compared to 2011 where we saw 9 people die in this county.  4 of these fatal accidents were DUI related.  There were a total of 57 injury/non-injury accidents where someone was driving under the influence compared to 2011 where there was a total of 64.  The number of DUI arrests were also down this year with 199 compared to 243 last year.
