Chairs for Charity coming this weekend 1-26-13



Grab Your Seat for the Chairs for Charity Event –Saturday, January 26, 2013

Calaveras County artists and several local groups have entered chairs for the Chairs for Charity event on Jan. 26. An amazing array of themes and so much creativity has gone into this year’s entries.  There are a total of thirty-four entries going on the auction block at this unique, fun-filled, fund-raising event.

The unique event runs from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the San Andreas Town Hall and features art, music, buffet dinner, a high-profile raffle and rousing rounds of Xtreme Musical Chairs. Tickets are $25.  ADVANCE SALE ONLY. Call the Arts Council for tickets at 754-1774.
Ten unique chair works of art have been selected for the event’s Live Auction, with more than 20 others to be featured via Silent Auction.  Chairs of every description will be featured – an acrylic painting, rockers, a bench, more than one stool, a quilted wall hanging, children’s chairs including a rocking horse, an Adirondack chair, overstuffed chair, carved chairs, caned chairs, a chair and table made from a wine barrel, a southwestern-themed chair and a unique side table. Judges Merita Callaway, Gay Callan and Sandra Peterson selected Live Auction art during pre-judging held Jan. 17th at the Arts Council Gallery.
Live Auction features chairs by:  Kim Vinciguera (ARC of America) with “ArCreations Chair,” a unique chair created by adults with developmental disabilities; John Rash’s “Sittin’ and Sippin,” chair and table created from an oak wine barrel; Carol Jones with “Time Out”, a child’s in the corner chair; Charlotte Mahood Mulcaster’s “Tou Louse Meets Van Gogh”, a painted chair and cushion; Dale Huey’s “Ghost Dance” a Sierra ------ Chair with a southwestern theme; Cate Culver’s “Bunny Chair,” two wooden theatre chairs joined -with seats that flip up; Lori Kelly’s “Calaveras County Scenes”, an large overstuffed chair with local scenery and wildlife; Peter Kelly’s “Teachers Rule,” chair and chalkboard; Linda Lawrence’s “Salvaged Sparkler”, embellished chair using recycled materials; and Christine Schultz’s “Bird Chair”, a garden chair with clay, glass, and metal embellishments.
All entries will continue to be on display at the Arts Council Gallery, downtown San Andreas, until the morning of Friday, Jan. 25 when they will be transported to the Town Hall.
Julie Youngblood and Lynne Greer will host Xtreme Musical Chairs, a crowd pleaser in past years.  Mindi Bach, a popular emcee/auctioneer, will be asking for your bids and the Pickle Patch will serve a delicious buffet dinner. A no-host bar will be available. Attendees will be tempted by a wide-range of high-profile raffle prizes.

Nearly $23,000 has been raised from the past three Chairs for Charity events.  Calaveras Arts Council and Soroptimist International of Calaveras County host this event. A percentage of the3 funds raised at Saturday’s event go back to the entrants and the remainder helps support projects of the two non-profit groups.
