Sonora PD Press Release re: Stolen Vehicle Arrest

13 June 2012, Marcis Perez of Sonora reported the theft of his 1985 Toyota pick-up from the parking lot of an apartment complex on Greenley Road. On 19 June 2012, Perez’s truck was located in a ravine, by the California Highway Patrol. At that time, there were no suspects.

The investigation into this matter continued and Leslie Hay, 22 of Sonora, was identified as being one of the possible suspects involved in the theft of Perez’s pick-up.



On 29 Aug. 12, the investigating Officer learned that Hay was in custody at the Tuolumne County Jail on unrelated charges. The Officer contacted Hay in the Jail. Hay confessed to his involvement in the theft of Perez’s vehicle. He also identified a second suspect that was involved in the theft of the truck. Hay was booked for felony vehicle theft. A complaint will also be requested against Hay for felony conspiracy to commit a crime.

The investigation into this matter is continuing and further arrests are anticipated.
