Sonora PD Press release re: Burglary Arrest

16 Aug. 2012, unknown subjects entered the down town U.S. Post Office, located at 83 S. Stewart Street at approx. 2:00 am. While inside the building the responsible(s) opened and removed mail from some of the boxes inside the Post Office. One box contained jewelry and clothing valued over $1,000.



During the investigation, Officers identified Cathy Scotland, 19 of Sonora and Loren Martin, 19 a transient, as being the suspects in the burglary. Officers started actively seeking Martin and Scotland to interview them regarding the burglary of the Post Office.

23 Aug. 2012, a ring stolen during the burglary was located at a local jewelry store. The ring had been pawned by Cathy Scotland on 16 Aug 2012, following the burglary of the Post Office.
29 Aug. 2012, the investigating Officer located both Scotland and Martin and they were taken into custody without incident. They were both transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked. Scotland was booked for felony burglary and felony possession of stolen property. Martin was booked for felony burglary and felony conspiracy to commit a crime.
