The Ramsey Fire is located on the Calaveras Ranger District on the north slope of the North Fork of the Stanislaus River between the town of Dorrington and Cabbage Patch Maintenance Station. The fire was discovered at 2:45 pm on Saturday, August 11, 2012 and is believed to be caused by an escaped campfire. Some vacation cabins and permanant residences are in the area of the fire, but are not in danger at this time. There are no evacuations at this time.
High temperatures and steep canyon terrain has made this fire difficult for crews to attack. One Firefighter was injured Saturday and transported by helicopter to Modesto where they were treated for heat stroke and released. Three helicopters are assigned to this fire today and will be starting recon between 8:30 am and 9:00 am once smoke is lifted from the area. Air Tankers will be assigned once needs have been determined.
