Big Trees State Park - a breath of fresh air

With State Parks seemingly always on the chopping block come budget time each year, we up here in the foothills breath a collective sigh of relief when our beloved parks are given a stay of execution.
Due to the recent turmoil within the State Parks Office, and funds that have been discovered, it seems as if our parks may possibly not be up for discussion in the 2013 budget. However, it is never too early (or late) to enjoy them while you can.

Case in point, Big Trees State park, located right here in Calaveras County, just 30 + miles up hwy 4 from Copperopolis and 10+ degrees cooler. Big Trees offers a Junior Ranger program, 129 camp sites, hiking trails (guided and self guided) through groves of trees, open meadows and marshes, picnicing and more. During the Summer there are ranger talks, numerous interpretive programs, environmental educational programs, junior ranger programs, hiking, mountain biking, bird watching and activities for school children.

Bring the family (easy access for strollers and wheelchairs), the dog (on a leash) and a sense of adventure...enjoy the beauty and splendor of the giant sequoias! FYI - these Giant Sequoias are ONLY found on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain.
