Sheriff Dept Press release re:Teen Injured While Vandalizing Calaveras High School
(San Andreas, CA) On July 27, 2012 at around 2:30 AM deputies were
dispatched to Calaveras High School for a medical aid. Upon arrival they
encountered six juveniles between the ages of 16 and 17, two of them
being a 16 and 17 year old males, allegedly intoxicated (both from
Valley Springs). The 16 year old male had apparently been consuming
alcoholic beverages when he told his sober teenaged friends that he was
going to go to Calaveras High School to vandalize the school. They
followed him in an attempt to stop him. Once at the school the 16 year
old punched his hand through a window, causing a laceration to his arm.
He then walked approx. 200 feet away from the broken window creating a
blood trail, which is how the deputies were able to locate him.

State Boad of Equalization Rep George Runner on Fire Tax
Last
year the Legislature approved and the Governor signed a law requiring
nearly a million rural Californians to pay a new annual tax of $150 for
every habitable structure found on their property. About half of these
taxpayers live in the district I represent.
I've opposed this new tax from the beginning, because I believe it is unconstitutional.
The Governor and Legislature simply called it a "fee" to avoid the
2/3rds vote requirement designed to protect taxpayers. As soon as
possible, I intend to join a lawsuit asking the courts to halt this
illegal money-grab as soon as possible. Unfortunately, no one can file
the lawsuit to stop the tax until after the bills go out.

What the SRA Fire Prevention Fee means to Copper Residents
The following is the states presentation on the SRA fee:
'The State Responsibility Area (SRA) Fire Prevention Benefit Fee was enacted following the signing of Assembly Bill X1 29 in July 2011. The law approved the new annual Fire Prevention Fee to pay for fire prevention services within the SRA. The fee is applied to all habitable structures within the SRA.
The fee is levied at the rate of $150 per habitable structure, which is defined as a building that can be occupied for residential use. Owners of habitable structures who are also within the boundaries of a local fire protection agency will receive a reduction of $35 per habitable structure.
This fee will fund a variety of important fire prevention services within the SRA including brush clearance and activities to improve forest health so the forest can better withstand wildfire.'
According to Daniel Berlant PIO CalFire, residents of Copperopolis that reside within the Copperopolis Fire Protection District are eligible for the $35.00 reduction on the assesment fee.
Californians should see the first wave of bills, sent by the Board of Equalization, by the second week of August.

Letter from Lungren re:Energy Solution to Nation's Needs
California consistently sees the highest
gas prices in the nation and gas prices nationwide continue to trend
upward. In January 2009, the average gallon of gasoline cost
$1.67. Today the same gallon will cost the average American more
than double its value less than four years ago: $3.44. And that is
still a deal compared to the $3.81 we are paying in California!
In case you’ve forgotten the days when we paid $1 for a gallon
– this dramatic increase is not a pattern the United States has
experienced. Eight years ago in January, a gallon of gasoline
was $1.75, 12 years ago it was $1.38, and 16 years ago it was
$1.22.
Sierra Repertory Theater Presents ' There Goes the Bride'
There Goes the Bride is a madcap race to the altar for the
Westerby family. The father-of-the-bride tries to handle his daughter’s
wedding arrangements while juggling his frenetic advertising business.
After a bump on the head, he meets a beautiful and rambunctious 1920’s
Flapper, but only he can see her. Compounding his problems are his
intrepid wife, a critical mother-in-law, his hard-of-hearing
father-in-law, a sarcastic business partner and a suspicious
father-of-the groom. This warm comedy is full of laughs. "I found myself surrendering to the ceaseless bombardment of familiar nonsense laughing outright." London Daily Mail.

To Dine or Not to Dine...
This week I have chosen Bristols' Ranch House Cafe in Arnold.
If you have read my To Dine or Not to Dine articles before you can probably surmise that I thoroughly enjoy dining out...anyone else cooking for me and then washing the dishes, is far and away the best! So suffice it to say when I visit a place where I walk in and am greeted like family, treated like family and fed like family...I know I have found home! Bristol's Ranch House Cafe is home.
After discovering the serene beauty of Whitepines Lake while on a photo hunt for new views to see through my lens, I had worked up an appetite. After all, sitting on a white sand beach, my feet sunk in the sand, watching the kayakers and ducks paddle through the crystal clear water and the fishermen casting again and again, had me exhausted! Dragging myself to my car I ask a local enjoying an early lunch on a nearby picnic bench where I might stop for a nice bite to eat. Bristols was the first and only restaurant that came to mind. Bristols it was.
Located right on Hwy 4, you would think it would be easy to spot, but ha, its wood cabin exterior nestled into the pines may cause you to miss it..so keep your eyes open. When you pull into the parking lot its much like pulling into a campground. Squirrels, birds and pine needles everywhere! I entered the door and was instantly greeted by the owner Richard who had been sitting with a customer chatting. Quickly seated with menu in hand and coffee on the table I perused the menu. As it was morning the menu offered everything you could want for a hearty country breakfast. An elderly lady at the table next to me leaned over and whispered...'try the biscuits and gravy, they're the best, I come each week just for that!' I took a look at her plate...wiped clean. I took a look at her frail frame and wondered just where she had put all that food.
Not able to make up my mind I watched as plate after plate of food appeared from the kitchen and was delivered with friendly chatter to the tables. Watching the plates made my decision even more difficult as the omelets were bursting at the seams with vegetables, meats and cheeses. The biscuits and gravy servings were so huge I was surprised it fit on the plate. I was pretty sure my ever widening rear was not going to appreciate what I was going to order, but I did it anyway. Oddly enough I ordered a Belgian waffle with seasonal berries.
