Comedy night at the pub - grins and giggles

Once again the Sports Pub brought laughter to Copperopolis in the form of comedians coming from as far away as Vallejo and Sacramento. Of course none of them could resist poking fun at the remoteness of our town, some expressing concern about the law enforcement and the likelihood of them returning to their hometowns in tact.

The third Friday of each month the Sports Pub brings live comedy to Copper through stand-up comedy promoter Del Van Dyke, a righteous comedian in his own right. Del carefully selects comedians that he thinks will tickle our funny bones and hopefully entertain us with their humor.

Sports Pub owner Larry Phillips, Shane Murphy, G. King, Micki Phillips, and Del Van Dyke.

Comedian Deshawn Robertson, a performer familiar to the stages of Black Oak and Jackson Rancheria, joined the evening of stand-up at the Pub as an impromptu guest. Robertson was a ball of energy. He hit the stage with a rapid fire delivery but if you missed his words, no worries, his actions clearly showed what he was saying.Especially when he delivered the story of the transvestite walking up hill in San Francisco in a micro mini needing a serious lesson in the finer uses of duct tape.

Following Robertson was comedian G. King. King, from Vallejo, has graced many a stage with his routine, claiming a show in Japan along the way. If there was a show stealer of the evening, King was it. Covering everything from relationships to finances and of course cops. Being from Vallejo, "the first city in the state of California to go bankrupt" King openly questioned the logic of being pulled over for expired tags when the car that pulled him over had expired tags too, he continued to cruise on from there exceeding his time, but so worth it.

Comedian Shane Murphy pulled from his experiences growing up as the white son of a black step-dad. Murphy using humor as a healing tool after the loss of his son used comedic situations to show how ridiculous political correctness had become in America.

The next Comedy Night at the Sports Pub will be Friday July 13, 2012. 8:30 pm. 785-4646
