As Sheriff, I am pleased to announce that my Office has been successful
in obtaining an amnesty program to help aid the residents of Calaveras
County whose dog licenses may have lapsed due to the tough economic
times. Therefore, Calaveras County will have its first dog license
amnesty program beginning Saturday, June 23, 2012, and will run for 35
days from June 23, 2012, to July 28, 2012.
If you are delinquent on your dog license renewal, during the
amnesty period you will be able to bring your dog license up to date
without paying any back licensing fees or late fees.
There are over 6000 dog licenses on record in Calaveras County. A
few are new licenses, however, the rest are license renewals and many of
which are delinquent. The longer a dog owner waits to bring their dog's
license up to date, the more expensive this becomes due to back license
and delinquent fees.
The dog license program is an off shoot of the State Mandated Rabies
Control program. The program funds the County's rabies control
activities and is the rabies vaccination tracking program for the state.
Licensing your dog ensures your pet is protected against the rabies
virus, brings you into compliance with State and Local laws, and can
help your dog be returned in the event it becomes lost, through tracing
the licensing tag number to its owner.
Here is how the program will work;
You may register your dog at the Animal Services Office during
normal business hours or you may license your dog via US Mail delivery
during the amnesty period. You will not be charged back or late fees as
long as the envelope is post marked no later than July 28, 2012. Proof
of a current rabies vaccination is mandatory. Proof of spay/neuter is
required for the altered dog licensing fee, and proof of age 65 years or
older is required for the senior discount.
It is my sincere desire to have all dogs properly licensed and
vaccinated in Calaveras County for the health and welfare of man's best
friend and the citizens of our county.
