Sheriff Dept Advisory: Vallecito Man Arrested on Burglary Drug and Weapons Charges

Murphys, CA) Following multiple reports of burglaries in the areas of Vallecito and Murphys, and a report of suspicious person/activity in Murphys, on 03/26/2011 Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies contacted Kyle Hicks (age 30 out of Vallecito) at a residence in the 2500 block of Sheep Ranch Road in Murphys. It was discovered that Mr. Hicks had illegally entered the unoccupied residence and had been squatting inside the house for several weeks.

At the time of initial contact with Mr. Hicks the detectives were unable to locate the homeowner. The burglary investigation, dating back to January 2012, stemmed from the theft of 800 feet of copper wire and two chainsaws from an outbuilding located in the 3800 block of Carson Street in Vallecito. During the contact with Mr. Hicks the investigators discovered that he was in possession of a sawed off shotgun, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and approx. 2 grams of methamphetamine. Mr. Hicks was arrested and transported to the Calaveras County jail on the charges of trespassing, felon in possession of ammunition and a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, burglary, and grand theft (from two separate investigations). One of the chainsaws was valued at $500. Investigators learned of Mr. Hicks when they were tipped off that he had attempted to sell the stolen property. Calaveras Sheriff’s detectives are awaiting additional evidence and information to see if Mr. Hicks may be connected to other burglaries in the area. This case is still under investigation.
