Copper Senior's project to help newly formed VFW Post 12118

Local senior Zachary Haste, grandson of Ralph and Eva Murphy, has created a senior project that benefits the community and the local VFW Post 12118.

Zachary's love for the automotive industry and his knowledge that many cars, especially during these tough economic times, are not maintained properly helped him to create his senior project. With his mentor, Bret Harte automotive instructor Ken Sooter guiding him, Zachary has created a day long event where anyone with a vehicle in Calaveras County (and beyond) can come to the Bret Harte campus parking lot and have a maintenance inspection. Included in the inspection will be checking tire tread and pressure, oil level and condition, fluid levels, etc. This is only a maintenance inspection for the car owner to become knowledgeable on the maintenance needed for their car.

While the maintenance inspection is free Zachary is hoping for donations. All funds raised from this project will be donated to the Copperopolis VFW Post 12118. Zachary chose to have any funds raised donated to the VFW "because veterans have helped this country so much I want to do as much as I can for them for risking their lives for us."

Zachary will be starting at Universal Technical Institute in Sacramento on August 20th, enrolled in a "51 week course that I will hopefully switch to BMW afterward and start working for them."

The event will be held at Bret Harte High School in the student parking lot off of Murphy's Grade Road on April 1st from 10 am till 3pm
