The races were organized by skill category and were run on a closed section of Little John Road, with a loop through the center of Town Square. The spectacle of cyclists racing full speed around the tight turns of Town Square brought out dozens of spectators. Many were camped out on the patio of Snaps Coffee House & Wine Bar, or watched while dining at Panini’s Restaurant and Griff’s BBQ. All restaurants reportedly had record sales for the one day event. Even Cruisers Ice Cream Parlor had a busy day despite the chilly weather.

The Town Square Circuit Race is organized and produced by Lee Shuemake of TopSport Cycling of Sonora, and sponsored by Rabobank. TopSport pays a special event fee to Calaveras County to hold the event and to officially close Little John Road during the races for safety reasons. A second circuit race is schedule for Sunday April 1st. Signs will be posted at either end of the course to alert residents of the short term detour and temporary road closure. Stop by Town Square to watch this exciting sporting event that is bringing visitors and vital tourist dollars to our community.
