CHP will be out in force New Years weekend

SAN ANDREAS – The last holiday of the year will find the California Highway Patrol (CHP) working hard to provide safety and service to motorists.  CHP officers will be vigorously enforcing speed, cell phone and safety belt laws.

In addition, officers will be especially watchful for impaired drivers during this period.  “Throughout the holiday travel season officers will also emphasize DUI enforcement to help remove these most dangerous drivers from California’s roadways“, said Lieutenant Ehlers.

Starting at on Friday, December 30 through , Sunday, January 1, the CHP will be implementing the Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP).  During this time all available officers will be deployed throughout the state.  The Officers will be on the road to ensure motorists celebrate the New Year in a safe and responsible manner.  Our goal is to make sure everyone arrives at their destination safely.  Driving impaired is not worth the consequences

The CHP has a short list of tips for holiday drivers to help them avoid trouble and tragedy:

Be responsible, don’t drink and drive.
The time to make the decision not to drive is BEFORE you have that first drink.
If you plan to drink, choose a designated driver first.  Designated Driver is someone that hasn’t had anything to drink.
Use public transit, call a cab or find a place to stay instead of getting behind the wheel.
Obey all speed laws, leave early, be patient in traffic.
Make sure you and all your passengers are buckled up in seat belts.
Keep your eyes on the road, not on your cell phone – put it down, turn it off.
