CHP Christmas weekend statistics

SAN ANDREAS - The number of fatal accidents and DUI arrests over the holiday weekend were higher this year compared to last year.  Statewide, the CHP arrested 889 drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence compared to 658 for the same period last year.  8 people died in automobile accidents in the state this year, a dramatic increase from 4 people for last year.

In Calaveras County, CHP officers arrested 1 person suspected of driving under the influence between 6:00 pm Friday and 11:59 pm Monday.  Last year the CHP arrested 1 person.  Our officers handled 6 accident compared to a total of 1 accident last year.  Fortunately we remained the same this year compared to last year with 0 fatalities for the county.
